    Which 5150 variant and WHY

Yes, it's way too scooped and you can't push it as easily as the 50w. The 50w is suuuuper brutal, more modern than the original for sure but in the mix it destroys the others

    The quest for impulse responses

You can do this with literally any poweramp and it will still provide the flattest result - for example, I could crank my poweramp presence so both the poweramp out and the mic'd signal will have cranked presence, therefore the difference in between them (cab+mic) stays exactly the same all the...

    The quest for impulse responses

You can actually capture IRs that don't take the poweramp into consideration, so they're actually 100% mic + cabinet only. To do that, you'd need to have a DI box or loadbox in between the amp and the cab, so that then you can calculate the difference between the poweramp signal and the...

How early do you go for samples?

Yours are all valid questions, this is my approach: I try to achieve the best I can with the recorded snare, if it's still not enough then I'll scrap my tweaking, then blend in samples with the original snare (blend % up to taste), then re-tweak and that usually does the trick. To be more...

    opinion on eqing monitors

I would definitely re-check if you did something wrong, or email them. This plugin is a life saver, both on headphones and monitors. Not the same technology, I think somebody on the internet actually compared the two and found Sonarworks way better. I just know me and lots of others had exactly...

    Room mic for guitars?

The only case where I'd perhaps use it is when soloed guitar are playing, to give a more "in the room" vibe. On cleans/crunch on softer parts it can be cool, but often I just put a room reverb to get that effect

Mercuriall TSC vs TSE 808 Test

Have yet to see your vid, but also you should try the TS999 and Benevolent TS from Ignite - both free and both in my opinion better than the TSE808.

    Snare like this

You could try the Nolly Pro-MB expander trick. It does MIRACLES on excessive bleed

Fredman superior to a single mic?

Fredman provides a thicker sound, which may be what you want, or not. If the music has heavy riffs that are not too technical, then Fredman might be a good choice. If you're playing techy stuff or modern Thrash, I always think just one 57 gives the punchiest and most direct result
