saturation is a form of compression so usually putting it before a compressor won't make the compressor pump as hard. if really depends on what you are trying to do when you are saturating something and what you are doing with the other processors it will change for all of them.

drums need more punch, over all its need a bit more mid range/highs, guitars are a bit muddy in low mid area.

just listen every compressor still sounds very different with the same exact ratio,attack and release settings.. distressors you usually start attack and release at 5 and adjust from there

The god settings that all hte big guys use on it is 4:1 attack 10ms auto release. you can adjust attack and release if you want to the song but that works best with metal/hardrock i'm pretty sure that CLA and for sure andy wallace use that setting only on them. the auto release has two releases...

try using multiple limiters/clippers instead of just one, and bring each one down until its limit of distorting then put another one on. sometimes that works.. or use M/S and do crush just the MID where i'm assuming the drums are haha. or try a transient designer. there are a million things to...
