    What made you sad today?

Commitment issues perhaps? WMMST - seeing the lack of activity on the forum in the run up to a long awaited new album. Where is everyone?

Power Quest sign with Inner Wound Recordings

Long time, no login! Has everyone moved to a new home (Facebook, another forum perhaps?) or is this just a quiet spell? Anyway, I just wanted to say that I’m really looking forward to hearing the new stuff, if it’s still going ahead.

    What made you happy today?

The 500+bhp version should be stunning. All the flair and excitement that the utilitarian German suit-mobiles are totally lacking.

    Theocracy - Ghost Ship

Heard mixed reports about this one but I loved their last two albums. Will check out soon!

Sonata Arctica - The Ninth Hour

There's some good stuff here, but i don't see much lasting power. They desperately need to step up the musicianship, as five minutes of chugging without so much as an embellishment gets old very quickly. I know that Tony isn't a fan of Dream Theater and the like, so perhaps this is his way...

Twilight Force - Heroes of Mighty Magic

I'm not generally into the fantasy metal stuff, however, I just listened to "To the Stars" and enjoyed it very much. Good old power metal, the likes of which seems to be in rather short supply these days. Btw, I'm a 33 year old married father of one - probably not the target market either...

Power Quest Press Release April 2016

Just heard the news. Can't wait to hear the new stuff and see you guys on tour!

What gigs do you have coming up?

I'm gutted that I missed Dream Theater in London. Was planning on attending the Sheffield show, until I realised a few days ago that the tour dates on the website were formatted incorrectly (they were old dates from the 2014 tour). There is no Sheffield show this time.... :(

Dream Theater - New album title revealed

Scenes From a Memory is one of their very best, along with the new one. The Astonishing is fantastic, but quite a departure from their core sound. Images and Words and Awake are both good, but nothing special IMO (controversial!). Both albums have tracks that I just can't get into (Take the...

What gigs do you have coming up?

Symphony X smashed it in Sheffield last night. They were on top form.

Dream Theater - New album title revealed

Buy it, listen to it a couple of times until the themes start to appear and you'll be astonished how a band this late in their career can produce something so mesmerizing. I'm not saying it's perfect, but it's damn close.

Dream Theater - New album title revealed

I've listened a few more times and my opinion has changed slightly. It's even better than Scenes (and I never thought I'd say that)! The album is just so full of melody and wonder, it's nothing short of epic. I guess if you're into the TOT/Systematic Chaos type stuff, I can see why you may...

Dream Theater - New album title revealed

The Astonishing is just magical. The only other DT album that comes close is Scenes. It blows the rest away, IMO.

Live DVD/CD "Welcome to Atlanta" is out now!

So what's going on with the dvd? Is it released yet as I've not been able to find anything...

    Damn heatwave

It's a different kind of heat! I spent a week in Turkey and the temperatures hovered around 44 degrees. It was nowhere near as uncomfortable as it gets in the UK when our temperatures start to rise.

    Latest CD you bought...

I've been listening to Vader too. I first heard them on Planet Rock radio and have had their Spotify channel on a few times since. Not what I usually go for, but enjoying it all the same.

    Summer plans?

Putting the hours into my alternate picking between shifts. I've been playing for 15 years but I still struggle with really fast runs (and sweeps for that matter).

Alestorm - Sunset on the Golden Age

Thing is, metal for the most part is pretty silly at the best of times. Many (most) serious metal bands have godawful lyrics and all the moody glares and clawed fist poses look pretty darn silly in the cold light of day. It's the music that brings me back. There's just something about...

Alestorm - Sunset on the Golden Age

I disagree in the most part. We do, however, have common ground with the Jack Black/Steel Panther hatred! Alestorm make catchy, fun, metal so I don't see a problem with the fact that the lyrics can be a bit (a bit?!) silly. Edit - having said all that, I just watched the new video and (imo)...
