    Steven Wilson as opeth's producer

Deliverance and Blackwater Park are atmospheric indeed. Ghost Reveries is not. I agree with the previous comments to that effect.

    Who "also" hates Hip Hop???

So you must not like 2Pac, since he has sold over 70 million albums worldwide.

    Who "also" hates Hip Hop???

Digitized vocal samples ? Lol, that would be the late Roger Troutman from Zapp and Roger fame, performing on the talkbox - of which he is the master. The talkbox is one of the staples of P-Funk influenced West Coast gangsta rap. It has a constant looped beat ? Yes, just like To Live and Die...

    Who "also" hates Hip Hop???

I don't know if some of you speak french but missing out on MC Solaar's lyrical genius is really unfortunate for any hip-hop fan.

    Who "also" hates Hip Hop???

"NO." ? hahahahaha Who cares if it is commercial ? You think Me Against the World, Life Goes On, I Ain't Mad at Cha and To Live and Die in L.A. are not ? Can you even explain how these songs are any less commercial than California Love ? What's funny is that all the songs you've listed are...

    Who "also" hates Hip Hop???

    It's definitely hip-hop; and it's a great song.

    Who "also" hates Hip Hop???

Simplified versions of the original rap formula ? When was the original rap formula established in your opinion ? 1974 ? 1979 ? 1982 ? 1986 ? 1989 ? Gangsta rap can be very sophisticated musically i.e. NWA - EFFIL4ZAGGIN, MC Ren - Shock of the Hour, 2Pac - All Eyez on Me. All of these records...

Subgenre: basically the same thing in a slightly different style.

    Who "also" hates Hip Hop???

So there are different styles of metal but no different styles of rap music ? In your opnion, there is then no difference between A Tribe Called Quest, Geto Boys, OutKast, E-40, Do or Die, Notorious B.I.G., 2Pac, Beastie Boys, Souls of Mischief, Puff Daddy, Juvenile, Wu-Tang Clan, Black Eyed...

    Who "also" hates Hip Hop???

Well, again, I don't think mindless and meandering metal progressions are superior to the musical content of the two great 2Pac albums. I qualified them for a reason ...

Favorite song on each Opeth album

Orchid - None Morningrise - To Bid you Farewell (The Night and the Silent Water not far behind) My Arms Your Hearse - Demon of the Fall Still Life - The Moor Blackwater Park - The Drapery Falls (very difficult choice, The Leper Affinity and Dirge for November are close behind)...

Worst or less great Opeth songs

I certainly disagree about Dirge for November and Patterns of the Ivy; and Wreath and By the Pain I see in Others are incredibly underrated in my opinion. Generally speaking, I think that Opeth's songwriting really improved on Blackwater Park although there are some gems on previous albums...

    Who "also" hates Hip Hop???

That quote is elitist. A lot of these so-called conscious rappers are actually less creative poetically than gangster rappers.

    Who "also" hates Hip Hop???

2Pac is an incredible rapper. Two of his albums, Me Against the World and All Eyez on Me are full-fledged classics, even outside the rap genre. He had a total mastery of flow and intonation. Musically speaking, the songs on these albums are much more interesting than mindless and meandering...

    Who "also" hates Hip Hop???

Go listen to Pete Rock & CL Smooth, OutKast (they started in 1994), MC Solaar, EPMD, NWA, Nas (1994 also) and A Tribe Called Quest. There is more musicality in these rap artists than in 95 % of metal acts.

So my little girl said something cool while listening to Opeth...

Great stories guys. I've also been known to proselytize ... But I have to say, I think it's contradictory to systematically diss hip-hop and then preach musical open-mindedness. There is remarkable hip-hop as there is awful metal music - and in my personal opinion, over the last twenty last...

Ghost Reveries Compared to the other albums

We're just giving our opinions and mine is that Ghost Reveries is the weakest Opeth album alongside Orchid. I think it really lacks atmosphere overall and that the songs don't have the usual natural flow to them; every thing feels calculated for obvious effect. This being said, this is Opeth...
