A DI box turns instrument level and impedance into mic level and impedance. That's why you run it into a mic pre with XLR. It's much lower than line level.

The Hi-Z inputs ARE essentially a DI box. You would plug your guitar into that. If you're using a DI Box instead, like the Redeye, you go from the Redeye into the Mic Pre with an XLR cable

With Console 2.0, can you recall preamp gain settings? With Unison, can you record a track simultaneously with and without the modeling so you can compare? I think you can select Monitor versus record for plug-in inserts, but wasn't sure about Unison
