Two Notes, Kemper, or Something Else?

What's the real advantage of this? I'd still be forced to use impulses, so, just price? No idea, unfortunately. I never even heard of this Two Notes Torpedo stuff until a month ago haha

Two Notes, Kemper, or Something Else?

Hmm, the Torpedo Live is a reactive loadbox

    Valhalla Reverbs

I love ValhallaRoom. It was my go-to verb for years. So much so that I never even tried Valhalla Vintage Verb because I had no need. I've since switched to the Slate verb, but not because it sounds "better." It's just more exciting to me since it's newer haha

Two Notes, Kemper, or Something Else?

I'm going to be moving in a few months from a house into an apartment and will no longer be able to conveniently mic up my guitar cab. I will be keeping the cab - it just won't be easily accessible on a daily basis. Coincidentally, I've started hearing more and more about the Two Notes Torpedo...

Need Backup Solution for Various PCs/Drives

So these work with a standard external drive? Can I backup the whole PC, or do I need to select specific folders/files for it to backup? I don't have a WD external at this time, but I could get one. So it creates a file of the whole PC, and then you can restore using a bootable USB drive? At...

Need Backup Solution for Various PCs/Drives

I am currently running a dual-booting hackintosh with Windows 10 and OS X 10.10 Yosemite. OS X is backed up to an external drive with Time machine, but the Windows 10 side of things is not backed up. I want to fix that. I figured while I fix that, I should probably also remedy the fact that I...

    Peavey 5150 Woes

Long story/question ahead: I recently had some issues with my Peavey 5150 where the volume would sometimes severely drop out. It was an intermittent problem -- sometimes it wouldn't happen at all and the amp would be normal. Other times, the amp's volume would drop significantly after just 5...

    Drumatom

In that particular example, the snare sounds like it became more dull. I don't know if this is a problem with drumatom, or simply the settings used in the example. Anyway, might be fun to try, but I have found Pro-G to be good enough for my needs when I'm doing the tracking. When someone else is...

    Slate Virtual Microphone System

This was announced at 2014 NAMM, but looks like it's now actually been completed and coming at the end of the year. It's cheaper than I remember, but also seems to no longer include the SDC mic. Also the C12 emulation is gone, but they added a C800G (I assume it's the G, not the C800, based...

D.I. box into HI z Input or Interface mic preamp?

A DI box turns instrument level and impedance into mic level and impedance. That's why you run it into a mic pre with XLR. It's much lower than line level.

D.I. box into HI z Input or Interface mic preamp?

The Hi-Z inputs ARE essentially a DI box. You would plug your guitar into that. If you're using a DI Box instead, like the Redeye, you go from the Redeye into the Mic Pre with an XLR cable

Who's Used Apollo? Studio Upgrade Advice

With Console 2.0, can you recall preamp gain settings? With Unison, can you record a track simultaneously with and without the modeling so you can compare? I think you can select Monitor versus record for plug-in inserts, but wasn't sure about Unison

Who's Used Apollo? Studio Upgrade Advice

Thanks! Yes, I recall having to deal with IRQ conflicts on my old custom PC, actually. Pretty annoying. When it died (it was actually just a busted CPU fan, which I've since fixed), I bought my Macbook Pro, which I've been using for 5.5 years now. So did you buy the Thunderbolt expansion card...

Who's Used Apollo? Studio Upgrade Advice

Matt-Steele, your first Apollo that didnt work well on the HP, is that the same Apollo you're using now, except on mac and with a t-bolt adapter?

Who's Used Apollo? Studio Upgrade Advice

So their normal Plug-In Promotion does include the Apollo sometimes? I'm assuming that's how you got Studer, EMT, 88RS, and Precision Enhancer. Right now it's running only for the Apollo Twin, and it goes through December, which means no chance of an Apollo promo until next year

Who's Used Apollo? Studio Upgrade Advice

What gets me is how expensive UAD plugs are. I know they run sales a lot, but you're still looking at a significant chunk of change just to grab a couple of their plugs. I'm worried it would be a money sink. I'm the type of guy that ALWAYS buys a plug after demoing (from any manufacturer). I...

Who's Used Apollo? Studio Upgrade Advice

I'm considering a major studio gear change, and can't decide if it's a good move or a complete waste of money. I'm currently running a 2010 Macbook Pro with a Focusrite Liquid Saffire 56. When I need more than 8 pres/inputs, I add my m-Audio Profire 2626 with ADAT. This has served me well for...

    Updated 27" Retina 5K iMac

Most people seem to be scaling when they run games on the Retina. Running at 1440p or even 1080p. I've read it looks fine despite not being the native resolution, but I'm curious about frame rates with high settings for modern games. I'll probably pick up a PS4 on Black Friday anyway

    Updated 27" Retina 5K iMac

Looks lovely. Just curious Matt-Steele, have you ever tried bootcamp on the 5k, and ran any games? I know the 5k isn't a gaming machine, but it sure would be nice if I could run some games in Windows on it instead of building a separate rig

    Updated 27" Retina 5K iMac

Very good points. Although, I'm still on 10.6.8, so I haven't done a software update in 4-5 years on a legit mac haha
