V for me culminated what the band was "all" about in one album. Being an older fan , having bought the first album within the first year it was released I honestly dont like Paradise Lost or Odyssey much at all. I wont dent they both have hints of brilliance.. but overall not what I look for in...
Im about halfway through "A Game of Thrones" , my cousin raved about the series so much he bought me the first 2 books in hard-cover. I used to read a lot of fantasy when I was young... my cousin told me I'd love this series since it wasnt your typical hero of the day fantasy which I now loathe...
I have the exact same 2 guitars even same color as ABQShredHead lol... I also have a Yamaha APX 10 Electric Acoustic that is in a thread like this somewhere in this forum..
He's unlocked the secret of Burger King.. Honestly I always have liked Yngwie but your right.. of anyone he shouldnt be talking about unlocking new secrets since his stuff is rehashed so much.
Also as much as I hate to mention it.. a lot of guys from the Seattle scene made a lot of kids pick up guitars.. with that said Im going to put back up my mental block of that time period. :P
I'd agree with razor (seems i've been doing a lot of that lately). The post is titled "impact" while i've been following guitarists since ive been twelve.. and have been through at least part of 2 generations of influences.. Petrucci definitly had an impact in the early to mid 90's.. he was...
I liked the 2 first releases.. then a couple in between. I hardly find them interesting at all now.. People say they are unpredictable.. I find they are the most predictable band around now.
Yeah Id agree.. believe it or not some people would try to throw The Kinks into a dicussion like this also.. however I just dont see the "metal" aspect.. in some ways I can see the arguement.. however i tend to think of them as fore fathers more along the lines of hard rock.. even glam rock...
Dont forget ZZ Top's first album was in 71 also... its well known they have influenced a ton of metal bands / guitarists ..
Its been forever that I have seen someone mention Atomic Rooster , my Uncle had Death walks behind you on vinyl, I used to listen to that when i was very young.
Congrats man.. your one of the few guys I've actually talked too on this board.. Couldnt have happened to a nicer guy.. goodluck. I know speaking for myself Ill keep an eye on you :P
Yngwie , Vinnie Moore , Borislav Mitic , Joe Stump, Becker , Paul Gilbert , Marty Friedman , George Bellas.. Id throw Cooley in there, Chris Impelliteri(sp?) maybe... stuff I used to listen too but not so much now.
I own Infra Blue and Out of the Sun, listening to them now its hard to imagine what I saw in some of those guys back in the day (Im 33). To me those albums are very bland..
Electric Eye - Judas Priest (intro)
Aint Talkin Bout Love - Van Halen (intro riff)
La Villa Strangiato - Rush (muted part after solo)
Just a few off the top of my head...
