    rare prog from early 70s

Pavlov's Dog ? Some may find the stuff REALLY bad and admittedly, the lyrics are not that great, but instrumentally this band is pretty good. Guitar harmonies remind me of Blue Oyster Cult, the vocalist is for those who LOVE or enjoy Geddy Lee, and mellotron abound. Pavlov's Dog Bio with Mp3

Is there a band that makes u think you're the only one who really likes it??

GUAPO Check out the myspace, my recommendation would be anything from the album 'Five Suns' but try the track 'II' on the myspace.

    The Recommendation Thread

Try Pure Reason Revolution. They sound closer to the music in your first description. Pure Reason Revolution MP3's Good Tracks: The Intention Craft and Victorious Cupid

OPETH Offered Support Slot On TOOL Tour

On a different note, the video interview they posted has some hilarious moments from Mikael, as always: The comment about the David Bowie 'back patch' that his parents bought him.. lol an also the grammatical error "When I was an teenage metalhead"

    Opeth's new album: Insomnicide

Just sent an email to twitter. Do not know if I send it to the people that deal with this stuff, but I am positive I will find that out soon enough. privacy@twitter.com or File a ticket at http://help.twitter.com for any other issues. Actually.. you can send a direct message to the people...

    Opeth in Rock Band

I did the same. At first I typed in 'The Drapery Falls' but then decided on 'Heir Apparent'. Maybe it was for the wrong reasons (marketing I suppose?) but Heir Apparent has so much going on for it: The death metal riffing, slide guitar solo, shred solo, + the rhythm during the slide solo...

    Favourite guitar brand?

I picked PRS for electric guitar, but since I play bass, I would have picked : Rickenbacker, Fender, Music Man in that order.

Is there a band that makes u think you're the only one who really likes it??

I just listened to the newest Mars Volta 'Octahedron' and it's great! I always thought I was the only one who liked Alamaailman Vasarat. They have a lot of respect at the progarchives.com forums and were invited to NEARfest I think, but locally in and around Houston I have yet to find a soul...

    playing of metal in public?

You can only blast stuff from the 80s honestly. Celtic Frost's Into The Crypt of Rays while picking up a stranger is great, and by today's standards the stuff is jangly so people do not throw a fit. Actually, stuff from the late 70s too, like Hexwind mentioned above, Motorhead and Deep Purple...

Is 27 Too Old To Learn Guitar?

It could be argueable that 'back then' was a better time, what with all the baby mozart stuff now, but screw it, there is no better time to learn an instrument.

    Looking for epic songs

Hmm.. there are plenty of heavy-epic songs. So long as the definition of 'epic' does not merely mean 10+ minute songs! King Crimson Album : Red Track 1 Red, Track 5 Starless, holy shit is that song heavy, epic and chilling, especially towards the end. Album: Larks' Tongues In Aspic Track 6...

Porcupine Tree - The Incident (2009)

I hope not ! While Fear of a Blank Planet was not the greatest album, I respect it as an honest change in direction with regards to Porcupine Tree's sound (minus some of the sucky lyrics). I just hope that this album has more of the genius that In Absentia and Deadwing had.

    Euphoria

This song is taking me to another world...awe... I love this whole album; also In Rainbows. Lately I have been 'enraptured' by ÄNGLAGÅRD Focus and Devin Townsend Project - Ki Also Wovenhand... absolutely chilling

    Sleepytime Gorilla Museum

They sometimes wear dresses too. With that said.. Spectacular band, saw them play Fat Cats in Houston sometime in 2006. Carla (vocals/violin) also plays violin in a band called 2 foot yard (http://www.myspace.com/2footyard). I suggest this band if you like the more subdued side of...
