it's very different from a compressor. they are both for dynamics control but they do very different things to the signals. transient designers allow you to "shape" the transients of drums by adding or decreasing attack and sustain

He's emulating a Sturgis mix , and for doing that this sounds perfect. I think this mix rocks hard

maple toms with compression, cut out some mids, and a gate.

Its just edited really tight and played with new strings, but thanks

In reaper. I cut and moved everything to the grid and didn't worry about cutting off transients. If necessary I time stretched notes so they'd fit where they were supposed to

the cymbals sound really fake, like you used all hard hits. but the guitars are sounding good
