A steamroller. Here is the most proper definition to define "Casting The Stones", the new album of the american power metal band. Jag Panzer have returned with an album that will surely become a classic of the band. We’ve been awaiting for so a high level album for long. Much more technical and complex than the previous albums, and in particular much heavier, with the guitars of Briody and Broderick that create a devastating wall of sound . But at the same there is also big room for that dose of melody that has always characterized Jag Panzer in comparison with the other bands of U.S Power. Especially thanks to the voice of Harry "The Tyrant" Conklin that shows to be one of the best singers of the metal scene. The compositions of the band are all excellent indeed. The opener "Feast Or Famine" is a very technical up-tempo, with a good guitar solo that’s set on an extremely complex rhythmical structure. "The Mission (1943)" is a groove rich mid tempo on the wake of the best Iron Maiden. "Vigilant" returns to go along more progressive paths, with good inserts of keyboard that make the sound more airy. Pearl of the album, in my opinion, is "Tempest", a power-prog song, that alternates rhythmic bursts to an airy acoustic break followed by an excellent guitar solo. But they can smash us also with the speedy "Starlight's Fury" and the conclusive one "Precipice", other song with a rhythmically complex structure with a good instrumental section (the acceleration on the end is fantastic!). In short, "Casting the Stones" runs to be one of the best classic metal albums in 2004 and above all testifies the elevated class of a band that never disappoints the expectations. Masterpiece.
