This deserves to be reiterated.
The days of relying on a slick looking profile to sell your band/brand are dead and gone. Today it's all about the content.
Your followers don't want to be browsing a social-network site and have their eyes blown out by a different "flashy" design on every page, hence the appeal of Facebook. All that gaudy 2006 era stuff is sidelined in favour of content and actual connection with the audience.
