Hmm. It's been a while since I read the last one, but I thought I remember reading in his Afterword that he wrote the whole book and it was massive, so he decided to split the two books based upon characters. That would imply that it was already written.

I don't get the hype that TWoT gets. The first few books were pretty good, but it went downhill fast IMO. Now, I won't buy another one of his books. The last I read (checks bookshelf) was The Path of Daggers and although it was well written, didn't feel like it advanced the plot at all. When I finished I thought, "That was a decent story, but so what?"
