Fabi Ann – Generation Suicide
Precum Records – RH 12 – 4 Oct 2007
By Ryan Starr
Fabi Ann is a Swiss rock band with a knack for variety. There is no metal to be found anywhere, but
Fabi Ann runs the gambit from acoustic soft rock to (mildly) psychedelic to alternative. You then take all that and dress it up in some wannabe retro clothes. Does that sound good to anyone? Yeah, I didn’t like it either.
I’m sorry, but this is just exasperating. It feels incredibly fake and cookie cutter, like 99% of all rock music. There is nothing interesting going on, not even on a technical level. Just basic rock riffs and bad singing. The only parts that I find mildly entertaining are the cheesy throw back sections. I can’t believe that actually included a disco tune on this album. Maybe I’m missing something though. Perhaps this is just one giant inside joke that I just don’t get.
Generation Suicide didn’t make me want to kill myself, but certainly won’t be buying anything from
Fabi Ann. But if you dig this whole modern retro thing, perhaps this is up your alley.
