One cannot presume the truth of what one declares without presuming the falsity of all incongruous declarations. Given the infinity of possible claims, who could be so vain as to think their dismal claims true? The tragedy, of course, is that we cannot but make declarations. So it seems we must speak as Gods to converse as Men.
