You might think that with a name like Herrschaft, and knowing my strong liking for that country, that this is another German act. Well, that would be wrong, since these guys are actually from France.

I reviewed their Architects of the Humanicide MCD in 2007, and I remember liking the music, but found the thrashy vocals a bit annoying. On Tesla, this problem is mostly thing of the past. Indeed, the raspy vocals are more discrete, like it is commonly heard in Black Metal, and its thrashy side is not as screamed and loud as before, much to my pleasure. Herrschaft combines extreme Black Metal with more electronic and techno sounds, to create a dark and futuristic scenery. The keyboards and electronics are very present in their compositions. A few tracks even have a danceable beat ("I Am the One" & "Apocalypse Child"), which is not really my thing, but I've seen worst! I mean, let's face it, the majority of those so called "male" vocalists in mainstream metal are nothing more than a cheesy impersonation of disco's biggest joke : The Beegees! Herrschaft is not cheesy, not at all. Rather the opposite. Their music is intense, melodic, somber, cinematic, modern, a bit catchy on the side yes, but kicking as hell too! This is not like The Kovenant, who simply went from Black Metal to techno, if you see what I mean.
Again, there are many places to draw you attention for good tracks on this release like: "Valliant", "Human Soul", "Under Perfect Control" (acoustic guitars, wind & rain samples here), "Tesla", "Nemesis" and "Vortex" (more acoustic guitars!). 8.5/10
