Whats better than a pair of EMG 40DC's?

Free ones!

I'm going on tour with my buddies band and scored new pickups for my bass through their EMG deal. Sweeeeeeeet!

Oh? You mean like the regular 18v Mod or is there a way of hooking up a battery to each pickup independently that I have not heard of? Sounds like a cool idea. What be the advantages?

Sorry, didn´t wrote that thing clearly.
The manual recommends you to make the 18v mod.

"Two batteries wired in series for 18 volts is
recommended for bass to increase headroom
and enhance performance."

Yes, the 18 volt thing makes a hell of a difference on the bass EMG's!

If you buy 2 EMG 40DC's you will get 2 sets of pots/wires/battery connectors etc so you would just use those provided right?

Im fucking clueless when it comes to basses but I think I might buy a pair myself! Id get somebody to wire them in for me but I just don't want to make a mis-judgement before I purchase!

I have a Spector Q5 Pro, 2 passive EMG's with an active eq system or whatever. Would there be any problem swapping all that out with the 40DC's?

same as above, i've got an Ltd B-305 with Hz's in it and an active EQ...

i really want to put 40DCs in there but is there any recommendations of what to do cause i don't think its got enough room for 3 9v batteries in there...

I would have thought all the old shit could just be taken out and replaced with the EMG stuff, just like guitar pickups do. But this may be different :s

You don´t need the preamp/active EQ while using the 35/40-DCs. You don´t need three 9v batteries.
I use one vol knob and one tone knob for each pickup on my bass (it has 4 knobs, as it had the active EQ system that I removed when swapping the stock pickups by the EMGs)

I see, so you just got 2 non-working pots there? I heard something about a "blend" pot aswell?

No, the knobs were like this:
1: Volume
2: Tone
3: Low (active eq)
4: Treble (active eq)

And now they´re like this:
1: Volume (Bridge EMG 35DC)
2: Tone (Bridge EMG 35DC)
3: Volume ("Neck" EMG 35DC)
4: Tone ("Neck" EMG 35DC)

But I guess it´s possible to use a blend knob. In the end I always use all the volume and tone knobs on max anyway.

I took some pics of my setup:

Those next to the green thing are the tone knobs, and those next to the fixed battery are the volume knobs. The guy who installed it for me said that these black tubes (looks like some plastic straw) are better than isolation tape for protecting the wiring. In the end there´s room for one more battery, but who cares about the active EQ anyway? : P

ESP SB-4 (B&N) p.u. w/ ESP ABQ-2 2-Band Active EQ. I honestly barely remember the tone of it. Still have them on a box. If I ever sell this bass, the EMGs 35DC comes with me. Until the grave
