Yan's Top 13 Of 2007
Top 13 Of 2007
Here's my list of my favourite songs, albums, and movies of 2007: Top 13 Songs: Song - Band - CD 13) Not The Only - Nocturnal Rites - The 8th Sin / My favourite track off of this very solid cd from Nocturnal Rites. 12) Last Man Standing - Hammerfall - Steel Meets Steel / Very catchy brand new tune from this greatest hits collection. 11) The Dark Eternal Night - Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos / Highlight from an otherwise lackluster outing from the DT gang; would like to see them take a couple of years off and come back fresh. 10) Sleep Well - Kotipelto - Serenity / One of the few highlights off of Kotipelto's latest. 9) As Long As I Fall - Helloween - Gambling With The Devil / VERY catchy tune; sticks in my head for days everytime I hear it. 8) Here Goes My Head Again - Great White - Back To The Rhythm / Great song; nice to see them back together again. 7) The Clouding - Iced Earth - Framing Armageddon / My favourite track off of this fantastic cd; Ripper rules! 6) Cold As Ice - King Diamond - Give Me Your Soul... Please! / This guy just keeps writing killer stuff; love the lyric: "My breath is showing, and yet, its summertime". 5) 321 - Scorpions - Humanity Hour I / Very heavy and very melodic; hope I still rock as hard as these guys when I'm their age ;-). 4) Far Cry - Rush - Snakes And Arrows / Goosebump city everytime I hear this one. Love the Hemispheres chord in the beginning. Neil Peart, in my opinion, is the greatest lyricist that's ever walked this Earth: "It's a Far Cry from the world we'd thought we'd inherit, its a Far Cry from the way we thought we'd share it..." 3) I.M.E. - Helloween - Gambling With The Devil / Awesome; plain and simple! 2) Empress - Gamma Ray - Land of the Free II / Would've been 1 if weren't for the blatant Accept Princess of the Dawn ripoff. 1) The Cellar - King Diamond - Give Me Your Soul... Please! / Amazing song; the little girl singing "give me your soul" near the end is just haunting! Top 13 CDs: 13) Ozzy Osbourne - Black Rain / Even though I absolutely HATE the Osbournes, especially the *u*t; this IS a pretty decent cd. 12) Megadeth - United Abominations / A little too preachy for my tastes but not a bad outing for Mustaine. 11) Nightwish - Dark Passion Play / Great music, horrible vocals. 10) Gamma Ray - Land Of The Free Part II / Could've easily been cd of the year if weren't for all the "tributes". 9) Symphony X - Paradise Lost / Pretty good; nothing really grabbed me though. 8) Freedom Call - Dimensions / Good; its no Crystal Empire though. 7) Primal Fear - New Religion / A pleasant surprise; I really like every song on here. 6) Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos / Fantastic production; some highlights but overall its pretty run of the mill stuff; seems to me they were a bit lazy on this one. 5) Scorpions - Humanity Hour I / Not as good as Unbreakable, but these guys never cease to amaze me. 4) Rush - Snakes And Arrows / I was sure that they were done after Vapor Trails. This was a VERY pleasant surprise; could've done with less instrumentals but I can definitely live with them. 3) Helloween - Gambling With The Devil / Great follow up to Keeper 3; a bit of everything that we've all come to love from Helloween's on here. 2) Iced Earth - Framing Armaggedon / Took a while to grow on me but I'm glad it finally did; outstanding cd, I'm VERY disappointed that Ripper's been booted. 1) King Diamond - Give Me Your Soul... Please! / I can't believe he topped The Puppet Master; I'm just shocked at how good this cd is. Not that the Grammys mean anything, but this cd was actually nominated for best metal performance. Overall, not a very good year for movies imo; I didn't get a chance to see No Country For Old Men, There Will Be Blood, Shoot 'Em Up, or Eastern Promises. Top 13 Movies: 13) Pan's Labyrinth: Decent; very over-rated. 12) Evan Almighty: Way better than Bruce Almighty but a bit too "family" for my tastes: I laughed everytime I saw his wife, kept hearing her say; "f%k me Santa, f%k me Santa ;-) 11) Disturbia: Not bad; liked the original a million times more; Rear Window. 10) Hot Fuzz: Not nearly as good as Shawn Of The Dead and it's too long for a comedy. Good to see Timothy Dalton again, though. 9) Wild Hogs: Fun movie: Ray Liotta is awesome in it; best part is the end credits. 8) Live Free Or Die Hard: Pretty good; wish Samuel Jackson was in it. 7) Saw IV: Decent; not scary at all though. 6) Mr. Woodcock: Suprisingly good; Tim Robbins' mom is pretty good in it ;-) 5) Walk Hard: Great movie; "the wrong kid died"! 4) 1408: A bit predictable but enjoyable nontheless. 3) The Simpsons Movie: Classic!!!! As good as I'd hoped it'd be. 2) The Science of Sleep: Wow; just amazing! Top notch acting. 1) I Am Legend: I was literaly on the edge of my seat throughout; I'd like for them to have developed the plot a bit more, but oh well. Kind of ripped off The Stand, but still a great movie. I'm totally in love with Sam; that scene was tough to watch. Feel free to comment and add your lists.
