I've got a Schecter Demon 6 (no FR) with active "Duncan Designed" pickups..
I also have a cheap guitar with stock passive, I like the feel of the guitar, but the pickups could be better.. either of them could do with an upgrade.. I recently discovered that I like the neck position for rythm.. And I think I'm more into passives.. :S Though I don't know how to install a passive pup in an active guitar.. Is there a good pickup in under 100€? I found a used SH-13 Dimebucker for 50€.. Thinking on getting that.. if it can be used in the neck.. I play mostly downtuned metal/alternative.. Any advice to give? Do tell! |

![]() Anyone think I should get the SH-13 Dimebucker? The sneapsearch gave me threads from 2005, and I don't want to necrobump.. ![]() |

No more recommendations for a pup?
Speak your mind! The used Dimebucker seems good for 50€.. new, it costs 140€ here.. :S But so far I've only seen 1 good youtube video of it.. The rest of them have been pretty crappy.. so I'm not completly convinced.. |

Thanks for the tip!
Checked some clips and it didn't seem bad at all.. hmm.. New, it costs 79€.. Looks like a standard, black, open humbucker.. But.. I found this: SEYMOUR DUNCAN SH-4CLASSIC COVER GD (Jeff Beck).. For 40€.. used.. Don't know if they sound the same? it looks different as it has a golden cover.. I'm no pickup expert.. :S I wouldn't mind cutting the price in half.. if they sound the same.. ![]() |

Anything by Seymour Duncan is good. But the SH-8 Invator I really like it. Syn from A7X uses it. Hope I helped.

You can get rid of the cover really easily if you don't want the gold covers. I have 2 JB's in 2 different guitars and i really like them for certain things. They are great all around pickups.

Good question!
Well.. It doesn't have to be a neck pickup.. I threw together a shit-potpurri of some old stuff I've made.. Thing is.. I play alternative soft music.. hardcore.. numetal.. metal.. almost everything.. ![]() Maybe I have to get two pickups.. ![]() I'm just happy if I can get a nice rythm tone.. like Korn-ish, Suburban Tribe-ish.. Here's the clip: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2383166/Shitfest.mp3 Pay no mind to the vocals.. Recorded them in my vocalbooth last year, during a night.. had to record and edit vocals, mix and master the shit for a deadline the next morning (school homework).. I'll be redoing the whole songs.. guitars, drums etc. Anywho.. that's some of the stuff I do.. |

They didn't sound bad at all.. but couldn't find any here..
![]() Guck me.. it's a gucking jungle out there with all those pickups.. I'll probably get the Seymour Duncan Sh-4.. since I found a used one.. Still have a some questions for you, guys: I have an old DeArmond.. my first electric guitar.. and it's a cheap one.. But I love it.. It has a basswood (or some variation of it) body.. and great sustain.. I'm thinking of putting the SH-4 in that one.. since I'll use it for cleans.. The Schecter has a mahogany body, with active pups.. Don't know how hard it is to put passive pups with active ones.. :S Because I'm thinking of trying to get the Dimebucker as well.. Am I gonna have problems with pots? do I have to switch the pots? How do I know if they cause a problem? :O Anyone combine active and passive in a song? Like quadtrack 50/50 ? |

So far I've gotten the Seymour Duncan 59.. got it used for 40€.. was close to getting "invader" or "JB".. but they were too expensive used..
I'll be on the hunt for cheaper ones.. And I've gotten a lot of "no name" pups.. so I'll be doing my own soon.. Still wondering though, ever combine passive and active for rythm? |
