Any suggestions for new bands I should listen to?
I enjoy a wide variety of metal, just not really the metalcore type stuff. I enjoy technically complex music, as well as melodic stuff. Mixes of light/mellow with dark/heavy is a huge plus.
My favorite bands at the moment:
Dream Theater
Opeth
Between the Buried and Me (Yes I know, convenient that these three bands happen to be touring together)
Guitar guys like Satriani
Old metallica, megadeth
Big Iced Earth fan
Anathema has sounded promising
Maiden
Sonata Arctica
Symphony x
As for other genres, I like tool, radiohead, muse, etc
So yea, I'd appreciate any and all suggestions. I'm wiling to listen to anything no matter how obscure it is. I just need some new life pumped into my repertoire of bands.
thanks

Demons and Wizards. It's Jon Schaffers and Hansis project.

You might try Queensryche. Great Prog-Metal band, get Operation: Mindcrime.
