Just a question about the "feel" of fretboards; if you're "feeling" the fretboard at all on a guitar with super jumbo frets (AKA anything remotely metal), doesn't that indicate a pretty big error in technique?

There's not really such thing as bad technique as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, well you certainly don't want to be pushing down on the strings hard enough to touch the board with normal fretting, but certainly when you dig in for bends and agressive vibrato it's pretty common for your finger tips to slide around on the wood. Mine do.

Sized the neck laminates and glued up the neck today.
Off the saw and into the jointer: ![]() I chose the boards for their grain orientation. Nice straight grain in the center, and a slightly curved grain opposed on either side: ![]() Ready for some glue: ![]() In the clamps: ![]()

All glued up, remachined the fretboard surface and got it marked up for the next phase.

For JRT12 and anyone else who's wondering what this mahogany looks like.
Here is a raw board, and a smaller piece that's been surfaced in preparation as a neck blank. ![]()

Carbon fiber reinforcement rods for the neck. Not much to them, but you can't bend this shit!
![]() Shot of the body blank: ![]() Hard to see it clearly, but there is a bit of figuring in this wood. With some finish it should pop out a lot better: ![]() In the bandsaw: ![]() Voila! ![]() Closest I can do to a mock up....lol: ![]()
