Designing a myspace site
Saw this today and would like to imitate this to a certain extent. Can anyone direct me to tutorials etc on how to create a design like this? What programs would I need to purchase to create that? I would consider this as learning from scratch
The green and black is what I would like to imitate but just come up with a different design http://www.myspace.com/veilofmaya#!

Don't bother with Myspace. It's a dead site and should be treated as such.

dont waste your time. ANYTIME I search a new band I will choose their facebook over myspace 100% of the time. myspace crashes my fucking browser more than any other site.
although the facebook music player is still pretty shit and unreliable. i dont get why these websites cant code a good music player like mixpod. |

I really was expecting this to be a necrothread
![]() I remember designing an amazing theme for my band back when myspace was still a thing, then the layout broke after some update and I never bothered trying to fix it lol. Still, I wouldn't worry too much about it, the default is good enough for the amount of people that will go to it (not that many if you have facebook) |

myspace is that dead, it won't even return as a zombie...
better getting yourself a facebook page (with timeline, so you can use nice and large pics ) use some good tabsand actually think more about the stuff you write instead of how the page looks, more important, keep it running and just get your name out through different networks. working on a few different facebook pages and social media things in general, but there's no way I would do anything on myspace again, last time I checked my account was like 2 years ago...

The days of relying on a slick looking profile to sell your band/brand are dead and gone. Today it's all about the content. Your followers don't want to be browsing a social-network site and have their eyes blown out by a different "flashy" design on every page, hence the appeal of Facebook. All that gaudy 2006 era stuff is sidelined in favour of content and actual connection with the audience.

Surprisingly, MySpace's traffic is up and they've had over 1 million new signups since December.
I don't think it means much in the long run, the days of spending hours on MySpace and reading bulletins and adding bands are long gone, but you don't want to completely ignore it either. Their interface now is garbage and dog slow, I'm rarely there, but I get messages and friend requests still so I pop in every now and again. For a band, it doesn't make sense to not be there... nor does it makes sense to drop a lot of time/money into it either.

You can disagree all you like; the numbers are indeed up and continuing to grow.
Again - it'll never be the powerhouse it once was. But it makes no sense to ignore it either, especially now that it's been making efforts to rebrand itself as a music discovery site. I'd never recommend investing a lot of time/money into it, just having a presence with tracks and recent news is enough for a band.

THe problem with all these sites is that they try to improve an already perfect design. They did it with myspace = killed it.
Now they are doing it with facebook with the fucking ridiculous timeline. Just keep it simple and clean and easy to use. |

Timeline sucks for band pages - scrolling posts on the wall is so much hassle now, nothing looks quite sure where its meant to be and its pretty fucking sketchy in general, been using it for a few weeks on my personal profile and now their system seems to have lost half my facebook history.

I've not used it on a band or group page yet but I love it for personal profiles. The check-in map addition is pretty sweet, as well.

Timeline rocks
I love you Jeff! (looking at our Nick's-we're already married...)Using timeline on 3 pages I admin atm, I am digging it alot for pages, you can use it as a band history thing, better way to integrate your design things through the larger pics, easier to work with (after you got used to it, took me 10 minutes) and you're able to completly delete old posts (like you're drummer posting about fucking that ugly girl once after a show). The only thing that bothered me in the beginning were the custom tabs, but even this stuff starts to work now.
