Predictions 2009
Soo.. personally I think 2008 was shit for metal releases. The majority of new releases were very very mediocre and apart from some underground Black/Death metal stuff I was VERY disappointed. This was probably a good thing because I really did get into more back-catalogue stuff from the 90's and 80's.
2009 however is so far looking to be not bad, for starters I picked up the new Cannibal Corpse album last week and it totally ripped my balls off (best riffs since Bloodthirst!), hopefully the new My Dying Bride will be killer as well. And the Be'lakor album of course. Interesting rumours: shining obituary nile and a shitload more |

There's a fairly good list of 2009 expected releases here:
http://www.last.fm/user/lamentMimose...for_%282009%29 And a painfully thorough one here: http://www.last.fm/user/gunleik/jour...2009_-_present

Yeah I don't like 'deathcore' or lamb of god or in flames etc so that whole 'really popular' spectrum is definitely not my thing, I have a pretty eclectic taste in music and when it comes to heavy metal in 2008, yeah, I was dissapointed.
Of course I did not listen to EVERY SINGLE RELEASE so don't fucking jump on my case, but yeah in general, my opinion is that there was nothing really in 'mainstream metal' that I thought was awesome. I still haven't heard the new Cynic so maybe I will appreciate that one. Cryptopsy ..anyone? yuck. Metallica = .... Satyricon = joke Meshuggah = great production, music = yawn. Opeth was definitely disappointing... My Dying Bride (live) - very disappointed with this one, no energy, they really noticeably fuck up bits in 2 songs and it just sounds so dry. Things which I have had on high rotation in the car: Origin ..just 'wow' Bloodbath (this one surprised me and blew me away) Leviathan ....amazing) Darkthrone Behemoth (live) The new Deathspell Omega which popped up in late December was interesting. and the new Urfaust EP was pretty cool... the remastered Hellhammer compilation stuff was an awesome surprise. ACDC pulled through with a ballsy album so that was pretty cool. I've been getting into older Motorhead, Possessed, Led Zeppelin stuff, ZZ Top, some random thrash bits and pieces from the 'oldschool' days..and yeah like I said just old Black Metal stuff from early 90's etc. I don't know ..I was just put off by a lot of hype about certain releases only to listen to material on the internet and have to close the page after 45 seconds due to an overload of gay. I'd much rather listen to the bloodhound gang than the black dahlia murder you know what i mean? That kind of shit is so boring. *EDIT - just want to mention again that the new Cannibal Corpse has totally made my week/month and so far 09 has gotten off to a kicking start ![]() Last edited by -K- : February 18th, 2009 at 03:37 AM. |

I tend to agree with most of what you said Konrad, I found the year a bit underwhelming too.
- Even the Bloodbath album- whilst I still really enjoyed- I found a bit dissapointing, as I prefer the groovier/more melodic Swano style to the new more Morbid Angel type thing they've got going. - I found the Opeth album- whilst again, pretty good objectively- extremely dissapointing. - New Meshuggah was great, really liked that. - Psycroptic was excellent - Eluveite; zzzz Also agree that the new Cannibal Corpse is superb, I can't think of any other band that just keeps getting better and better over such a long period of time. |

Lots of people have an eclectic taste in music, big deal, right? Something a lot of people seem to forget is that music is subjective, and one man's trash is another man's treasure. A lot of people love the new releases by Metallica, Cryptopsy, In Flames and Satyricon. Do I? No. Am I going to start a thread and start off by saying that? No. A bit of reflection before posting goes a long way. Anyway, Be'lakor, Ne Obliviscaris, Shining and Wintersun are what I'm looking forward to this year the most. |

What the fuck Elliot? All he did was start a thread about what albums he's looking forward to in 2009 and that he was disappointed about last years releases. What's the big deal? If you don't want to discuss it then stay out of the thread.
I personally thought 2008 was a very good year, not just in metal either but music in general. As for this year, if we get new releases from Be'lakor, Ne Obliviscaris, sleepmakeswaves and possibly Arbrynth then it can't be bad!

And Elliot, dude, I really don't know what your problem is, I honestly wasn't trying to give you or anyone else shit for their music taste, all I'm saying is 'meh to 08' and that I really hope that a couple of bands really pull their fingers out this year and blow my mind because I love hearing new music work wonders on my ears... good music is timeless. ![]() |

^This was one of the best albums last year. If you liked that one, have you tried Woe - A Spell for the Death of Man or Krallice - S/T. I think they were even better that A Massive Conspiracy..., and they also solidify the fact that some of the best black metal nowadays comes from the US of A. Elite (Norway) released also a new album called We Own the Mountains. I think you should check it out also, if you haven't already. Then there was Arckanum's Antikosmos, Ofermod's Tiamtu etc. There really were some awesome bm-releases last year as well.
As for 2009, I'm waiting releases from: Fen Wolves in the Throne Room Be'lakor Dictator Absu Blut Aus Nord Tribulation Colosseum |

![]() I tell ya what mate! Nah, just tired of people ramming opinions on others, especially online. I guess this was the straw that broke the camel's back. And for the record guys, that second 't' isn't just for decoration. Last edited by Elliott : February 18th, 2009 at 05:11 AM. |

Pretty harsh to gang up on someone expressing a difference in opinion.
discussion; 1. Conversation or debate concerning a particular topic. Quoting sources lol |

Is it Elliot or Konrad who is being ganged up on? I'm pretty fucking confused
Ulitmately, this is a forum. So it's a place to express opinions. I dont care if people rip each other's throats out arguing, that's part of the fun ![]() |

Considering it's February already, and we've already got:
Darkestrah - The Great Silk Road (or was that last year? I forget.) Fen - The Malediction Fields Solstafir - Kold (I can't do the accents on this computer) ... This year looks as though it's already peaked. But considering Be'lakor, Ne Obliviscaris and maybe Arbynth, I think it will just be an awesome year! |

Thanks man. I only really started listening to it (the new Darkestrah) heavily in January, I forgot to put it on my ipod when I went to Africa! That's embarrassing, I didn't put it on my top lists of 2008!

I'm looking most forward to Wintersun.
Got the new TrollfesT album, haven't really given it a good listen. When I heard a song with "quacking" on it I stopped listening. Probably get new CC album VERY soon. |
