Movies - Reviews & Thoughts

Hi guys, thought I'd start a movie thread for recommendations and thoughts.

Just saw a Spanish zombie/horror flick called [Rec] from 2007, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1038988.

Was excellent - filmed in the now fairly hackneyed Blair Witch style, but this one actually worked really well. Give it an 8/10.

Isn't that the one they remade and called it Quarantine?

Can highly recommend Martyrs. Probably the best of the New Wave of French extreme horror flicks. Got this and another super cool French horror flick Frontier(s) on DVD the other day.

That Enter the Void film looks great.

For me, last new film i seen was Machete. Thought it was brilliant. Really like Rodriquez;s stuff. Well apart from Spy Kids

I'll give it a shot, but that trailer looked hugely pretentious.

That does look very funny

Re: ETV, I guess I'm just not cool enough. You should be man enough to admit it, however, if that distrurbing arrangement and epileptic torture device is actually used to obscure an average plot (as these irregular techniques frequently are) and the mental effect created is actually the celluloid equivalent of me dropping a sack of wet potatoes on your head. And I, conversely, will admit if I was wrong and it is genuinely creative

Gar, I think that I nearly saw that last year at a film festival??

Since we're in the middle of the french film festival, has anyone got something to recommend, or heard of something recommended? I'd like to see a couple before it's over, but my available days are limited :-(

It's a few years old now but there's a South Korean action film called 'Arahan' that's a bit of an obscure gem. I don't know if it's actually meant to be funny or if they were perfectly serious, but it's funniest martial arts movie I've seen since Jackie Chan's Project A days...while still being rather violent!

Huh, I remember hearing about that film awhile ago, didn't realise it was the von trier one.
"a rogue planet is going to destroy the earth..." - hey, sounds great.
"as two chicks explore their troubled relationship..." - ... and pass.

I'll have to check out the session list and get around to a few of the movies myself.
