They used to be a black metal band but they crossed over into ambient/experimental. It's good for setting a mood.

I like SOAD the two new albums are my faves to me they are more focused I've liked them since I was young they are one of the few not so metal bands that have survived my changing tastes over the last few years (that doesn't mean I don't like a lot of bands any more just that I don't listen to them, kids it's not un-kvlt to like shit that ain't black metal)

Daron is more like a "vocalist" then a singer, he got a particular voice that you love or not. Personally I really like his voice and how he sing.
