Edge of Sanity - Darkday

Well I pretty much used to listen to just Crimson and Crimson II (mainly) but I went back and listened to the Spectral Sorrows the other day and listened to Darkday.

Does anyone else think the riff in this song is just completely amazing? It's not very complex but it just sends shivers down my spine. I can't stop listening to this song. Now I will go and get all the old EoS cd's I don't already have

Awesome song indeed! One of my favorites from The Spectral Sorrows. The slow, melodic part that closes out the song sends chills down my spine everytime I listen.

I love this song. The way it just hits you in the face when the riff starts after The Spectral Sorrows, awsome!
It's great to play as well!

Easily the best song Dread ever wrote for EOS. A true classic.

Oh, I thought it's your composition. O.o Which song was it then you wrote just one day before the recording started? The Masque?
Anyway, then hail Dread!

Yep. The Masque. It was also the first song we recorded for the album. That is why the snare sounds even more horrible on that track

The Masque snare sure is horrible.
That remixed one with the triggered snare is nice however.

And, to get back on topic, Darkday is an amazing song. I really agree with the original poster about the simple mainriff sending chills down the spine.

hehe, yeah it's pretty horrible cause it seems to have a new "note" on every hit. But when I was younger and got the CD it was cool to me. Anyway a good song remains a good song.
The spectral sorrows also has a very strange guitarsound. It sounds a bit like no miced speaker was in the chain. More like a line out distortion.

Agreed. 'Velvet Dreams' is right up there too, IMO.
