Metal Improvisations

Name some bands that do improvisation within a "metal" aesthetic. It can be like an all out metal with improvised stuff in it or like a very heavy jazz fusion band.

I wanna hear how others are doing that, it is important however that there is definite improvisation. Not tremendously interested in Neoclassical guitar shredders ( I know they improvise a lot but I've heard enough of em already ).

Shoot!

Not sure if it falls in the range of bands you're looking for, but "Pan Thy Monium" is pretty has a pretty heavy "improvised" feeling about them. Class music though

Check out "Battle of Geeheeb", a really crazy song but very good, too. I have trouble getting into anything else by them, except maybe "Thee Pherenth"

Not sure how improv it is, but an excellent band along the lines of Atheist/Cynic fusion is Australia's Alarum: http://www.myspace.com/alarummusic

Blotted Science, maybe? that's Ron Jarzombek and Alex Webster's instrumental prog/death metal project.

The Ocean Collective is pretty good too, specially their Precambrian album (check 2nd disc).
