AdamWathan's Reaper Customizations for Pro Tools Users
Ok here it is finally! Basically, I have mapped out MOST of the Edit Window keyboard focus commands to work exactly the same. Some things are going to be different because it's a different program, but it's an awful lot closer than most other DAWs will let you get.
Important: I never use MIDI in Pro Tools and rarely in Reaper, so there are going to be differences there, and I don't really care. Easy Install: OS X Windows To use the easy install version, first download REAPER from http://www.reaper.fm and install it as usual. Then just unzip this file anywhere on your hard drive and copy reaper.app or reaper.exe into this new folder and run it from within there in order for REAPER to boot up with all custom preferences in place. For those that prefer to do things the hard way here is the original archive with just the preferences files: Requires REAPER 3.45+ and SWS Extensions v1.7.2 # 8 http://www.adamwathan.com/reaper/AdamReaperPT.zip The Pro Tools cursor set is available courtesy of Shan on the DUC/Reaper Forums in this thread: http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.p...736#post505736 Here are 6 short videos explaining my preferences so you can set yours up to match: Note: These steps are not necessary when using the easy install version. Autotune Workflow in Reaper: http://www.adamwathan.com/reaper/tut...tunereaper.swf If anyone has any Reaper specific questions on how to do this or that or what the best workflow is for whatever you are trying to accomplish, please ask and I will make a video. People really shrug Reaper off a lot but it is extremely powerful and I am more than likely going to be able to help you do anything you need.

Go to the media section of your preferences, youll have to change the peak cache folder because its set to his folder that likely doesnt exist on your computer. there are a bunch of little things here and there you have to reset

Ah damn didn't think about that one! I had them set to an arbitrary Peak folder to keep all the peak files out of the project directory because I wanted it clean. Those peak files really make a mess of everything in there.

Also, MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING AT LEAST REAPER 3.45! Anything less is useless. You NEED the "Trim behind media items when editing/record" preferences that they introduced in that update, it is absolutely ESSENTIAL to get any sort of workable editing workflow going...

Thanks Adam, great work!
Just a quick note for people running the x64 version of Reaper: You will need to install the x64 version of SWS Extensions instead of the one provided in the zip-file. You'll find it here: http://www.standingwaterstudios.com/x64.php |

So for whatever reason, after doing the first batch of changes and then reloading reaper, I no longer have the option to resize the reaper window/move it around (like the top part of the finder bar that should be ontop of every window with the minimize/close functions) is just gone. Fucking random. Going to wipe any trace of Reaper and reinstall, but that's weird!

Naw I tried that, as well as changing display preferences/not dualscreening, and it was literally detached from the Reaper window, like not there at all haha.

Adam, thanks for doing this and posting your files.
I seem to have a weird problem though. I seem to keep losing the ability to scroll during playback. (Like when you press play and when the playhead cursor goes off screen it shifts the view to where the cursor is.) I have tried to select Options->Automatically Scroll During Playback, but no dice so far. If I try enough times it works, other wise it shows where my cursor was when it started playing, but the playhead cursor goes off screen and keeps going. Thanks for any advice. |

I keep getting an error message when I open reaper saying "There was an error opening the project: ..." and it shows the path to the defauilt project you made. How do I fix this?

Yeah it's because of Reaper's full screen mode man, it eliminates the bar at the top and fills the whole screen giving you a bit of extra workspace. Command+F11 dude. It's a Reaper key command man.

@spark that's because the Play command has been replaced with a macro that automatically groups any items that are recorded at the same time to save you manually grouping them. If you don't want to use that functionality just change it back in the actions menu. I'm gonna go into more detail about these special functions later when I have a few hours :/

pretty cool stuff man. I'm still having some problems with reaper on my macbookpro, but it's definitely a good starting point for me.
1 question though.... do the Function keys still work for the tools in reaper? I havn't actually tested it yet.....

Adam, been testing it for a bit, the only thing I've picked up on is what I'm assuming is a north american/european keyboard discrepancy. The shortcut for opening the mixer window was set to Ctrl+=, but that wouldn't work for me, I'm assuming because = is a different key over there, so I had to reset that for my keyboard. Even though the key command was exactly the same it only worked when I reset it. Other than that, all dandy. |
