Going for Big and Loose...
Going for big and loose... Here's my set with a pair of R84 mics in a Blumlein config out front about two feet. I added Slate samples for some punch.

okay, it sounds big and splashy so where or on what kind of project would you like to use this kind of sound on? and won't most of the drums get eaten up when and if you start to layer bass and guitars and vox? pretty decent zep vibe though as far as the roomy sound

okay cool. so what would you use this kind of a set up for though. I am just curious since you read articles about glen or andy johns using that weird three mic set up for their drums sounds as a standard for them. and some other producer cats SWEAR by the technique. If you are playing around with it how would you go about controlling the mad mad highend cymbal action and still keep articulation on the drum kit itself. I know you are blending the slater trig sounds with the mic set up but does this defeat the ambient idea you have going on? or would you do an impulse of the room to use as your "verb" for the trigg's to blend better?

I'm on vacation this week and I'm messing around nothing more. it's not mixed for any thing other than I finally stopped moving knobs and posted this.
I have the R84s compressed significantly to amplify the room and they're way more than you'd probably need in a mix.

Hey Mood Bender,
I love this Bonham style sound and the clip sounds fantastic. Any chance of posting individual hits of the entire kit including cymbals/ride/hats? I'd even be happy with just one good hit of each piece. I would love to play around with this sound for some insanely fun experimentation. What kit is it anyway? |
