Trust me, it was politics, it's happened before with Kamelot and Dream Evil. kamelot could easily had done their full set whilst letting Dream Evil play the whole two songs they had left on their set. They didn't even give them the common courtesy of a '1 song left warning'. believe me, I spoke to dream evil after the gig, their set was cut because of kamelot's pettyness, no other reason.

they're music's entertaining but it's nothing special. before sunday i didn't have a problem with them, other than the extreme vain-ness of the singer wearing a coat through his set despite the fact he's obviously dying of heat now i have a serious problem with them because what they did was so petty and pissed off so many fucking people. i travelled all the way to london just for dream evil, so yeah, i'm beyond pissed that they didn't get to play my two favourite songs because of Kamelot being dicks!

haha yeah, as in i stuck my head out of my door and said goodnight to nik and peter as they went in their room a few doors down

Weird...I find myself defending Kamelot here, and defending DreamEvil on the Kamelot forum...
Venue policy could also have a lot to do with it, they kinda threw us out right after the gig, so they may have been pushing too. But you're absolutely right about the '1 song left' thing. That could have been done more elegantly.
It wasn't so bad for me, as I was there for both bands. And Serenity of course, I was really disappointed to find they were not playing.

ah no, the venue does that anyway. i'm not kidding, the volbeat gig finished at 10pm and two minutes later they were throwing everyone out. it's a crappy venue that way.

So what were the set times supposed to be then? My memory for these things is never the best but I seem to remember Dream Evil finishing at 9:00, and Kamelot starting at 9:30 (or was it 9:20). I also remember early on in Dream Evil's set that there were some delays between songs.

First of all, the word is vanity. Secondly, I was wearing a big leather coat similar to Khan's throughout the gig and I didn't sweat once. I don't know how physically demanding singing can be but Khan wasn't exactly running around the stage like a maniac a'la Bruce Dickinson. I do think it looked a bit silly done up though. It would have looked better undone. Thirdly, listen to 'The Expedition', in particular after they finish playing Shadow of Uther, then after they finish playing Millenium.

No idea what time they were supposed to finish, but I do know the amount of time they were told they had was cut, also the delays at the start lasted less than two minutes, not exactly two songs worth of set... My biggest problem is the fact that they just said get off. No warning. Any gig I've ever been to where a support band's set is cut, they at least are polite enough to give them a one song warning so they can play their last song, instead of having to leave the best song out of the set!
Stay the hell away from my words, I have an A level in English language, believe me, I know the word vanity, if you see me type a word such a vain-ness, you can be pretty sure I'm doing it as a slight piss take. And do not start having a go at my grammar on this forum, it's a forum, what do you expect?
As for the coat, have you ever been on stage? You could be sat down and still sweat like hell. The intensity of those lights is unbelievable, running around has nothing to do with it, just the heat from those lights alone is more than enough to make you sweat. Also I'm basing my observation of him 'dying of heat' on when I saw him at Wolverhampton last year, he was dripping with sweat after a few songs but that coat stayed on...

I really don't want to get into an arguement over this with a complete stranger, the simple fact is that the way Dream Evil were handled was unprofessional and completely unfair on those fans who wanted to see Dream Evil, especially those of us who lined Kamelot's bloody pockets purely for DE!

Being a die-hard Kamelot fan, I have to agree with this. Support bands get cut of from time to time, it happens. But the way it was done was quite inelegant, to say the least. I felt sorry for Nic, he looked like a little boy who had just found his favorite toy had been stolen.

As for the coat, vain-ness had little to do with it. According to Roy he sings best when he's "dying of heat".

Neither do I and we're not going to have one. Even though I mentioned the short delays in Dream Evil's set I'm not trying to defend Kamelot's actions here (hell, maybe the delays were Kamelot's fault. Such things have been known to happen at gigs). I'm just trying to work out what actually happened that night. I see too many arguments play out between artists on Blabbermouth and other such places and it's obvious that one side is either lying or withholding something, but which one? Before I jump to any conclusions I would surely need to hear Kamelot's version of events, even if, after hearing them, it seems they were being complete pricks after all. Apparently they are starting to get a reputation for that sort of thing (just ask the guys from Intense).

Okay, I get the point about the lights and everything but I still think you're over-reacting to Khan wearing a coat despite the heat. If he was actually giving himself heatstroke or something by wearing that coat then I would call him an idiot but he's managed to get through plenty of gigs while wearing it so I would just say let him wear what he wants on stage, and if he wants to wear something that makes him sweat bucketloads, then so be it.

They need to be careful then, their choice of support bands has brought a lot of new people to their gigs in the past, good bands aren't going to want to support them if they keep treating them like this... plus it's not fair on their fans (either Kamelot's or the support bands).

haha clearly you took my comments about the coat far too seriously (see the little smiley face with the tongue sticking out after I first mentioned it), to be honest it became a bit of a running joke between me and Kirsty after the tour that Firewind supported Kamelot on. At that gig it was ridiculously warm and we weren't even on stage. Khan just looked so uncomfortable, it seemed that vain-ness (it's my word and I like it ) was the only reason he could have had for keeping the coat on. But if it helps him sing, then fair play (although me and Kirsty are still going to shout 'take off your damn coat' every time he's mentioned )

Just because this thread has become so side-tracked, I should make my own contribution, although before I say anything I should explain that I develop photos for a living (which means you bring in your little reel of film or, in this modern digital age, a memory card full of image files and I make photos out of them):

- Best Thing: We have a new photo business manager now (he's like a district manager, or something), which we haven't had for over a year and it's been a real pain in the arse, but now we have a new one and it seems like he actually gives a toss about us.

- Worst Thing: Difficult to say because I'm still not sure if it's an April Fools joke but Europe headlining Bloodstock, and I won't be there to see it.

It's obviously a question of whether they are big enough to get away with it. WASP are well known for treating their support bands like shit but still have surprisingly little trouble getting bands to open up for them (although there is the hilarious story of what happened when Motorhead supported WASP on tour one year, let's just say that Lemmy takes shit from no-one). Don't forget that Kamelot were supposed to headline the Astoria that night, before it was finally decided to knock it down. Kamelot look like a band very much on the rise. Even if the support bands do bring in new people, they will still see it as an opportunity to introduce themselves to people who were there just to see the headliner, which the majority are there to see most of the time. Even if we assume that Dream Evil really were screwed over that night (and I'm not for one moment justifying what Kamelot did here), it still didn't work out that badly for them. They got to play about 90% of their set, and anybody not familiar with them really got a good showcase of their music. Whether they liked it or not was up to them, but Dream Evil managed to put themselves across well. Any band looking at this situation will weigh up the pros and cons and may just think it's worth it to introduce themselves to a new crowd.

Looking at your previous posts it does look as though you didn't feel that badly about the coat. We might have to agree to disagree about the word 'vain-ness', though. The grammar nazi in me recoils at the sight of it.

hahaha me and thee may end up falling out over my 'creative words' which I prefer to refer to as 'idioms' (although that is technically defined as a group of words, i wonder if there's a word for single words typical to one person?) however I shall try to tone it down as I'm a serious spelling nazi and I know how annoying it can be...

As for the Europe announcement, it was actually announced on 31st March, so if it is an April Fool, they fail epically. Seeing as how I'm assuming it's not a March 31st fool, I get to run around Bloodstock singing Final Countdown for five days, hell yeah!!!!

Thought I might aswell get a word in edgeways as someone who went to a different show. I was at the glasgow show where serenity DID play! I met them and had some good guitar convos but to be fair they were absolutely DYING of the flu.

My friends band were the openers (before Serenity). kamelot were still soundchecking at 7.25pm. Doors opened at 7pm, first band 7.30pm. A couple of minutes before my friends band went onstage they were told they STILL started at 7.30pm with a 30 min set.

So they get on stage, ready to go as quickly as possible and plug in their gear and realise all Kamelots gear is still plugged in...American adapters and all, thus delaying them further (and talk about rude!)

So they eventually started playing at about 7.45pm. And were promptly cut off in the middle of their THIRD song about a minute in even though the sound guy told them they had 4 minutes left.

Serenity got on stage on time, but their set was also cut 2 songs and they only managed to play 4 songs. when i talked to them they were pretty pissed

Funny enough Kamelot got their full set...and found enough time for TWO encores

Roy was as usual wearing "the coat". And in the Cathouse (which, if you've ever been has no air con whatsoever and the ceilings actually drip sweat) which was SOLD OUT by the way he even commented "it's hot in here!". Yet...the coat...it remained

I had such a productive day yesterday!!!
I cleaned the flat, went shopping and actually managed to get everything I needed, then went for an epic 2 1/2 hour, 17 mile bike ride!!!!
so best bit: being all productive and having a really pleasant bike ride in the sun
worst bit: the pain in my legs after the bike ride, although thanks to the bath and deep heat rub, my legs don't hurt today

So I'm making this best/worst of the week. Managed to blag a backstage pass for the sunday of Download festival, turning up and running into friends who didn't know I was there before running backstage was brilliant. Awesome day in the sun with friends watching ZZ Top, Whitesnake, Def Leppard and Buckcherry! Then onto Metal Hammer Golden Gods, absolute hilarity ensued. All 14 of us ended up on the same floor of the same hotel, from the looks two random girls gave us, apparently walking around a hotel at 8:30am in your pyjamas isn't acceptable, but it amused us ;P
Worst thing: Back to work today and I had my first tooth filling... without anaesthetic!!!

haha I have a friend who works for quite a few bands who were playing, he managed to convince one of them to give me guest list, I still don't have any clue which band it was, but yeah, the pass allowed you into the 'guest area' which is behind the mainstage where all the bands hang out. Twas pretty cool, but at the same time, I had more fun hanging out with my mates in the arena so didn't spend too long backstage. And no, missed BSC, saw them last year though, very impressive
