I really hope you dont take w/e MA says as "The Holy Grail." Drone has nothing to do with Doom. There is absolutely no relationship between the music, or lack there of of Drone. Same goes for most "Funeral Doom" but to a lesser extent. But that's all I really care to say on the subject. Please dont let this thread go into that terrain.

tiamat - wild honey

paradise lost - shades of god
the gathering - mandylion
anathema - ethernity / alternative 4
it's not death/doom, it doesn't have heavy metal influences and i think that is the real doom metal

Doom Metal is pretty much "metal" in it's truest form. It all stems from Sabbath. The reality of it, is the opposite of what you say actually. Doom Metal was around way before the early 90's.
Ok, I quit. I just couldn't not comment on this post.

We all know about you and your silly opinions hardly anyone agrees with.
It is your right to believe in whatever you believe in, However, I would advise against expressing such opinions with regard to what others think, or using your standards to judge how other people assess the genre.
I also don't think this is really the right way to see the situation:

You presented you admittedly minority opinion first; you would be the one bringing it into that terrain anyway.

Uh, to people who have actually been around, growing up on this stuff since the 70's and 80's, actually seeing it all happen, it is the majority of opinion. I wouldn't expect a board where the average age is 18 to understand this. And by that I mean no offense.
I'm only 27 years and got into the UG stuff in the 90's but the people I converse with who are actually within the "scene" and are much older know what they are talking about. I've done my research.

Indeed...just please don't present an opinion like that then go "don't make this thread go down that road."

LOL, I do see the absurdity in that. You do say that you are gonna lock a thread everytime it does go down that road though.

Yeah I know. It's just that some threads deserve to be locked and placed in glass cases for the world to see as shining examples of threads that DIDN'T degenerate into crappy arguments after a decent conclusion was found!
