You haven't heard any bootlegs from their latest tour, have you? He doesn't sound exactly like he used to, because he's 45 years old, but he hits all the high notes now and sings with conviction. My only real complaint is that he tends to drawl vowels into an "eh" sound ("sex sex sex! The number of the beast!").

There is a point where a band can get *too* progressive, and DT is way over that line.
This band is rivalled only by Iron Maiden in terms of mediocrity.

I heard Train of Thought awile back and only liked the instrumental song because the vocalist is really terrible. I also did not find the band as musically impressive as people into the band make it out to be. I would not check out another album purely because the vocalist.

lol he's a cob fan too, that's just too good
anyway, a lot of old prog bands had high pitched womanly vocals - just look at Geoff Tate and Geddy Lee- and DT was obviously heavily inspired by that kinda stuff, so I s'pose it makes sense for them to be fronted by someone like JLB. I totally understand why someone would be turned off by it, though... for example, Lee still effortlessly fends me away from enjoying a lot of Rush's stuff.
that said, I love them, and I have grown immune to LaBrie's vocals- and sometimes I have to admit he sounds pretty hetero, such as when he's trying to channel Waters
