On the contrary, I think it's one of the best from the Ozzy era.

A band's job is to write music. They don't have to appeal to everyone's taste, only their own. If people follow along and enjoy the music that's a bonus.

Again, it has nothing to do with the band, it has to do with you. It's impossible for a band, any band, to please everyone in the world with their music. Using this logic, every band fails to do their job, according to you.

Sure, if you listen to mainstream pop or whatever... If you don't, then realise that music should be art, and not entertainment, and there's a huge difference between the two. Music shouldn't be about listening to a song, saying I like it and not using a single fucking braincell when hearing it.
Good music makes you feel and think, not just be amused...
And on subject, I think Dream Theater is an amazing band. Many of their songs are too proggy for me, but overall their songwriting is great, and every single member of the band is extremely talented.

There can be art in a performance, or appreciation of being in the presence of the musicians and hearing the music you like in the most direct way possible. If live music is merely entertainment, then you may as well attend a pop concert.

Good music is both entertainment and art.

QFMFT. There wouldn't be so many shitty bands that imitate each other if people actually thought about what's good music.
