You definitely want to skip English classes in college if possible. The reading loads are brutal, and it'll detract from whatever else you're working on.

Yeah my plan with English was to get out of college English courses, while my motive with Latin is to get a head-start on my career as a Latin teacher, and eventual professor.

So what areas of history do you plan to focus on?

English = Poetry about flowers and feminism

Latin = Poetry about bloody wars and ritual sacrifice

English = History of retarded literary movements

Latin = History of the Glorious Roman Empire

Way to not know shit about shit. Maybe that's your high school English, but you don't know anything about English until you get to college. I mean, have you even read any Shakespearean sonnets? Donne? Whitman? Frost? And that's just poetry, which I only have a passing interest in. It's kind of retarded to only focus on poetry when talking about English, since, you know, it entirely discounts the world of prose. Also, in case you didn't realize, "poetry about bloody wars and ritual sacrifice" is part of English.

I admit my biased generalization of a dynamic subject such as English. I've always been interested in linguistics, so I'm solid in the grammar department. However, poetry and prose just completely turn me off (unless it's in another language to translate). I enjoyed a few of the novels and plays I had to read but most of it was bullshit geared toward a female/gay audience.
