Libertarians rely way too much on the assumption that people are smart enough to take care of themselves beyond holding a job.

I think generally that form of government would be fine, sure theres some libertarian extremist that are agaisnt making kids go to school and destroying the Federal Reserve, but it would have a fine place in US government.

Libertarianism is only feasible in a utopia, and I don't think anyone would say that we have anything resembling that.
I SUPPORT small government, as in I think that government should be as small as reason would allow. This means that government can be massive if that's what we need. I think that's what Republicans don't understand. They just want to reduce government, they never think about effective employment of government, just how to make it smaller (unless they're looking to increase their own powers, which they always are...). They never think about how to reorganize government to make it efficient and useful. They just want to cut it off.

Good point, never thought about relativity in government size in that way. How would you propose we find out how proportionate the government must be?

Well it's certainly not a simple task and it would be impossible to come to any kind of objective agreement, but I suppose you would look at society and its problem areas and based on your own political philosophy, decide in which areas government both could help and should have the right of jurisdiction over. Personally, I don't think there is much that I would actually cut as far as major departments go, but every single one would receive a massive overhaul and substantial decreases in bureaucratic entanglements...of course, being that the government is the nation's largest employer, this could cause a minor employment problem...but then we can just stop exporting so many jobs.

Yeah, that's what I figured. As I said in later posts, I do support many things the NDP does, but as with all Social Democrats, I am wary of having huge taxes and bad administration. It works great in countries like Sweden where everyone is in a similar situation and there aren't that many people, but I can foresee difficulties in applying it to large countries.
Necuratul, I agree with everything you said. Our government needs to spend money on our country and improve our lives (that's what it's for!), not waste money on fighting interminable wars or just atrophy into something useless.

I discovered tonight someone I work with sings and plays guitar/bass and has similiar taste in music and I play guitar and have a friend who plays drums so hopefully we get something going in the future.
The person insists he sings well and also has an older brother who sings in a band about 10 minutes from here who are pretty well known in their town atleast.

So I just found out about a Girls Gone Wild taping tomorrow at a bar about 15 minutes from my house. I'm not going because I think that shit is fucking stupid.
