Perhaps because that symbol used to actually matter to people many years ago? I realize that it doesn't anymore, and it probably sounds trite at this point, but that's hardly the point. It's pretty much the same as pissing on someone's grave. It's not like the people lying there would care, right?
To be quite honest, though, it's the kind of thing that doesn't even really matter to me anymore. Principles are important, because they are what makes us men, but you have to pick your battles. The jadedness of age, I suppose...

My point is that I think blood is a trivial association; in other words, I don't think your ancestors have as much to do with a possible connection to an ancient string of myths "and what it stands for and represents culturally" as do your own interests. It implies that, for example, a fifth generation pure blood German American immigrant has more 'claim' to Norse symbols than does, for example, a seventh generation German who is, by blood, wholly Russian and actually has an interest in the Norse culture.
I don't really know what I'm saying, but I think that the overall idea I'm trying to convey is that one's culture is more important than one's blood.
