I believe Gulags were the camps people were sent to work on while Stalin was in power in Russia. I fail to see how that is relevant.
Of course I'm probably wrong.

Yes, that's how it's done. It does get confusing, though, remembering if it's month/ day or day/ month. Of course, that's why we have handy mnemonic devices to help us remember. Apparently a lot of people have trouble remembering this this one, though, because a lot of people have the mnemonic device for this written on their cars and stuff.
"Never Forget: 9/11/01... Oh, so that's how you write the date. Ok."
