I like Spanish style football, but they concentrate too much on ball possession.

Well, the other team can't score if you possess the ball.
Yes, Spain plays the possession game, but that leads to dominating games, exciting offense and more chances.
Honestly, I do not follow, play, or pretend to be an expert in Soccer (woops-football) like some here. I will watch my NE Revs in the MLS, love my Italy and will not miss the exciting Euro Cups or especially the World Cup.
Back @ Italy. Lippi's return may lead to retaining some key players that may have moved on or retired and bringing in some needed offensive players. They are one of the best at defending and in net...add a few more goals here and there, 2010-WC here we come!

In order to keep too much posession, you have to push your defense line up, which makes teams suseptible to counterattacks. And you don't need too much posession to score from counterattacks.. (Netherlands).

I hear ya.
Would a team like my Italy be the opposite of...lets say Spain. Italy being a more defensive minded team, that look for a few counter chances?
The one thing that did bother me in the Euro Cup was poor officiating. It seemed that when teams were possessing and on the move offensively ala Spain, there was too much stoppage with opposing players down and far back from the ball, then these players are up and running in 10-seconds, its a joke. It takes away from the attacks and excitement. ...the Refs should just let play continue more often, even the announcers were killing these officials.
