Holy fucking hell, I found the most insane place ever to sublet. This chick I contacted on Craigslist is a graphic designer with a house full of amazing antiques, artwork, costumes, and an 18x6-foot shag sofa taking up a third of the living room. There's a whole zoo of animals in the backyard including chickens, ducks, tropical birds, an iguana, and a huge tortoise. She seems to have a ton of connections in the entertainment industry, and supplies costumes for movie studios in Austin as well as a bunch of bands incl. Thievery Corporation. The two other people living here are a stripper and a programmer for Bioware.
We're about to head out to Eeyore's Birthday Party, and she's hooking me up with a costume. She's also making us coffee and pancakes for breakfast. My mind has been fucking blown...

So you're trying to relocate to the Austin area?

It's definitely on the table, that's why I planned to spend a few weeks each at a bunch of the cities I'm visiting during my work leave. Austin's just the first stop, but I'm fuckin loving it here so far.

Here are some cool photos i have of Austin so far.
I randomly discovered a Ron Paul rally at the University of Texas on Thursday:
Ron Paul!
This idiot had a huge sign of mumbo jumbo blocking the middle of the audience and a bunch of video cameras for half the speech. Eventually he got mobbed and people stole his sign, haha.
Some random prairie shit along the side of the road near my couchsurfing host's house.
The chick i'm subletting from. She took me out to Eeyore's with some friends/housemates of hers, and gave me a funny hat and clown shoes to wear.
We found some hippie friends of hers, and they were swinging a lot of balls around.
The cops stayed pretty busy at the fest, but i doubt they were after pot-smokers, because if they were they could have arrested like literally 50% of the crowd.
Hula hoopers.
Drum circle with some topless girl swinging her boobs around.
Some things at the fest were just...
...beyond explanation...
Here's the room i'm subletting. I'll take pics of the rest of the house (which is like an art gallery) at some point, but i'm lazy right now.

Hippies are usually so sunny and pleasant that it's impossible to really hate them.

I don't believe hippies their happiness. Noone can be this sunny and pleasant all the time. Maybe they are like fat people that cry at home. You just don't see it. Also, their idea of fun is having colorful clothes and jumping around and that doesn't seal it for me either.

Also, I met few people that were close to this phenomenon and they don't make good friends. I felt like having my emotions, sense of humor and character sucked from me and it felt like slowly becoming one of them. Whenever I see rasta colors I sense problems.

The fashion style associated with it is often described as "ethno". I have a female friend who is a modern dancer and is somewhat stylish and whenever she sees some girl dressed like that she screams "CUUUUNT" at her and then smiles at me as if she did some sort of classic joke. When she's drunk and hippies pass by I hold her for safety reasons.

So I'm considering going to Europe in August. I'm broke so im thinking the super cheap route - Freighter cruise, hitch hiking, Work for your room etc. As of right now i'm really just talking shit, nothing set in stone but it's something I'm really considering. I have nothing to lose, no career really, no person holding me back. Anyone ever do something like this?

I think i'll be taking a road trip with my brother this month. The route i have in mind for now is Pittsburgh-Chicago-Toronto-NYC-Philly, but i may add on Maine-Boston if people are down to chill again. Probably will take place somewhere in the last 2 weeks of June.

Yeah i think it'll go something like:
1) Philly + NYC for sure
2) Boston + Maine depending on popular support
3) Toronto + Chicago if we feel like it

I'll be back in Bangor starting the 18th of June but the next 7 weeks will be very busy with my summer job and I will only be available on certain weekends. If the logistics line up right, though, we could try the summit of Katahdin again as I was intending for later this summer.

No big trips in the works. Maybe Cape Cod with PP or something, Montreal again to visit Paul French, and I'd like to do a long weekend in London to see friends there after the Olympics chaos blows over.

Planning the first leg of my epic North American trip. First stop, a few days in China then a month or so around Vancouver and BC. Best of all, Dead Can Dance tickets
