Root Of All Evil?
I was looking up something on Wikipedia tonight and randomly decided to put The Iron Maidens into the search to see if anything would come up. This page did - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Iron_Maidens and at the bottom of the second paragraph in the background section it says, "2008 brings Root Of All Evil, a 4 song EP on their Japanese label Powerslave Records."
Is this just a renamed version of the Route 666 ep or something new?? Cos in the discography it's credited to 2007. |

Hopefully the management of Slayer will be OK with using this title!

re: disco version - done while we were in bahrain and a specific genre remix requested by the label. i'd say it borders on moody ambient rather than disco - kind of a melancholy feel on war lol |

It's a dance remix, pure and simple. The label wanted to give a try at promoting the music of Maiden and our versions of it to those who aren't already Iron Maiden fans. Since a lot of the younger people there spend their time in dance clubs and the airwaves are full of j-pop, they had to find another way to do it - kind of like bringing the mountain to Mohammed.... It was important to maintain the integrity of the song while translating it to this very different genre. That's a pretty tall order! So we tapped the talents of people we knew and felt we could trust - in this case, my husband, bassist Lynn Woolever and his partner, Glenn Baren. I know that to some folks doing something like this with the music is akin to sacrilege. For what it's worth, though, I once read an interview with Bruce who said although he appreciated people being faithful to the original versions when they record their music he would love to hear versions of their songs that are completely different. We sure did that here!! Ultimately, IMHO, it shows once again the greatness of the songwriting, by transcending a specific musical style. And if it brings a few more lambs to the fold who will then discover the greatness of Maiden's music then mission accomplished! So, hopefully, people will listen first before making up their minds on what they think of it....Please forgive the length and wordiness of this post but I thought some of you would like to know a little more about the whys and what fors.

Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk,
Im a Troopin man: no time to talk. Cannons loud and and clothing torn, Ive been kicked around Since I was born. And now its all right. its ok. And you may look the other way. We can try to understand why I stay a troopin man. Whether youre a brother or whether youre a mother, Youre stayin alive, stayin alive. Feel the formations breakin and everybody shakin, And were stayin alive, stayin alive. Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin alive, stayin alive. Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin alive. Well now, I get low and I get high, And if I cant get either, I'm bound to die. Got the wings of heaven on my boots. Im a troopin man and I just cant lose. You know its all right. its ok. Ill live to see another day. We can try to understand why I stay a troopin man. ![]() |

OMG, too freggin funny!!! Now all we need is Aja to sing that during the Trooper!!!!
Give it that Travolta stance too, you know, the leg forward and arm pointing up in the air thing. That would be sooo funny! |
