What kind of magazine is that? A rock one or all types of music in general? (we don't get it over here)

Uh, you never heard of Billboard?

Oh sorry you're in Scotland. Billboard is America's answer to Hits in the UK.

That's a fantastic achievement for Maiden ( and, incidentally, Derek's artwork ) to make the cover if Billboard Magazine!
(On a side note- I believe that Matter of Life and Death made it to the top 10 or 20 Hard Rock albums when it was released.)

Here's what wiki has to say about Billboard - sums it up pretty well.

Billboard Magazine

At the top it says "advertisement". It looks like it's an additional cover that they paid a whole lot to put on top of the real cover. I've seen that sort of think often with Daily Variety.

It says May 17 on the cover, but you should be able to pickup this issue starting May 10.

FIRST TIME IN BILLBOARD HISTORY -- BILLBOARD LOGO WILL APPEAR WITH A SPECIAL IRON MAIDEN TWIST

Billboard magazine, the hugely influential New York based weekly "bible" of the international music industry, is set to feature IRON MAIDEN in a special supplement contained in its May 17 (street date May 10) issue in recognition of the band's continued and increasing USA and global success .Running 40 pages or more, Billboard magazine will give an overview of Maiden's current "Somewhere Back in Time" World Tour, the band and the key people around them, and their illustrious history as one of the world's premier live bands. Issued the same week as their 'Best of' album Somewhere Back in Time, the magazine will also pay Maiden the unique honour of having the front cover Billboard logo in Maiden font style, marking the first time in the magazine's history that it will not have the copyrighted Billboard logo on the cover.
