Hmmm!
I think I preferred the 'Evidence' clip actually, but this does sound pretty good. It does seem a bit different though.
I don't think I'll download anything else now, that's it. Next stop - the full album. |

I personally like this sample more than Evidence. I didn't really like Evidence when I first heard it, but it's growing on me. Criminals, on the other hand, I liked right away. I really like the guitar effects that Anders uses on both songs. I thought the guitar effects sounded great on LFDGD and I'm glad they are used nicely on this album as well. The drums sound great too, as does the overall production. The only thing I'm little concerned with is the vocals. As other have pointed out they sound a little more mainstream. It doesn't quite sound like the same Jonas I know from the previous albums. But I'm not going to make any real judgements until I hear Viva Emptiness in its entirety.

Still this nu metal feeling , but all that I can say is that this track is very very very agressive Katatonia.
I was, like most of you a bit surprised at first by the whole atmosphere of the 2 samples, but I reallly love it. What is surprising is that Anders disharmonic lead lines are almost absent in these samples. I really like the Tool harmonies in Jonas' vocals also... I understand that some of you can be disappointed by this new approach, especially if you're a huge fan of the Brave Murder Day era (like I am!!!), but it has been the case for each release since Dicouraged Ones. Katatonia has always tried to improve his musical approach by incorporating their influences in their sound. They've lost some fans by doing it, got a lot of new ones on the other way. I personnaly feel that this album will be very odd at first, but it will be another masterpiece with time, probably their best one once again... to cold dark nord: I think the effect on the verse is a tremolo, and that what you call flanger may be a delay with reverb on it...I'm not really an effect specialist anyway... ![]()

This stuff actually reminds me more of DO.. just sort of an updated version. Less technical than LFDGD... and a little more angry... wonderfulness

Now that I have twice as good a feel of the album (still only 90 seconds' worth of course), I'm convinced. I'll be buying it as soon as humanly possible. Seems more metal than LFDGD. For those who say it sounds mainstream or nu metal or whatever, I do hear a little bit of it in various ways, but those elements aren't what I hate about all those bands. It's that they're fucking boring and corporate and all sound the same. Katatonia is still all here. I like that they changed their style somewhat instead of making Last Fair Deal 2 or copying something older.

I'm new to the band, and I think both samples are great. Hondo, I agree... I pick up on something slightly "nu-metal" in the mix, but quickly dismiss it... People are so quick to label something as nu-metal, and I have no wish to be included in such a group... Can't wait for the new album... LFDGD rocks too...

there is begining to be no diffrence between katatonia and other bands you can hear a evidence or a criminals (i listened only 45 sec this means i criticise only one melody)
but you can not find another Quiet World,Deadhouse,Teargas, Murder,Inside the fall etc.

I have been listening to the first four tracks off the album for a couple of days now, and although I like the production I just think it is a simplified Katatonia with more emphasis on repetition and riffs it doesn't have the mood and sense of melancholy that adore from this band, no more judgements till I hear the rest though.

I agree Schism, the additional heaviness is of course welcome, but not if the emotional resonance they've excelled in creating in the past is sacrificed...
