Katatonia/ demian

So there's this really great book called Demian, written by Herman Hesse, which i found because i like this french musical project named after the book. Anyway, i got a copy from the library and the cover of the book is an image that is exactly like the cover of "Discouraged ones".

Is there a reason to this or did katatonia's album cover just use some old image that'd benen used elsewhere?

Its just a stock image, so is the BMD coverart iirc
