Area 54/Cyberya

AREA 54/CYBERYA
Camden Underworld
May 16th

Despite it being a UDO gig, your's truly was only interested in the support acts - unknowns (to me at any rate) CYBERYA from Germany, who've been supporting UDO on their European tour, performing material from their impressive debut MIND CONTROL, and London's own AREA 54 who've just done the rounds of the UK on their own tour before this gig, and will be heading out supporting Dokken for a few shows in the coming week or so. Two very strong sets from two very strong bands

With an impressive mix of agressive guitars, samples, and dual vox (don't go thinking they're of the nu metal ilk, though), Cyberya managed to impress the crowd with a strong set that oozed energy. No doubt it helped that they're German, as were a fair percentage of the UDO-supporting crowd, but they gave a performance that had the majority of onlookers down the front and rocking out.

For Area 54, however, things did not go so smoothly. With technical difficulties (thanks to someone kicking over a bottle of water) at the beginning, and a heckler in the crowd (who frontman Lakis soon silenced, with agreement from the crowd), the night was not an easy one for the 54 crew. They did, however, manage to pull off a solid set despite it being cut short due to time constraints, featuring the best tracks from their debut NO VISIBLE SCARS, as well as one from their second album (due to be recorded in July).

A strong reaction from the crowd was still to be had, and the night ended with the feeling of a good gig being had by all.
