![]() Now in their 17th year, Gamma Ray has lost none of their enthusiasm or passion for heavy metal. Not content to sit on their laurels, Gamma Ray continue to evolve, pioneering heavy metal as only they know how with fantasy based metal that continues to outshine the youngsters of today. And for the very first time, Australia will finally experience the power of classic German heavy metal with Gamma Ray featuring the legendary Kai Hansen. There's not a metal head alive that doesn't rank the seminal twin attack of Helloween's Keeper of the Seven Keys Part I and II alongside the best from Judas Priest, Queensryche, or Iron Maiden. Whilst mastermind Kai Hansen departed Helloween in 1988 following the Keepers triumph, his metal career was just blossoming with Gamma Ray making an immediate impact with their debut album Heading for Tomorrow in 1989. Featuring the vocal power of Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear), two more albums followed (Sigh No More, Insanity And Genius) but it was the release of Gamma Ray's epic Land Of The Free in 1995 that set the metal world alight. Land of the Free was everything the post-Helloween crowd was waiting for - melodic guitar leads, speedy licks and a nod to classic and German speed metal. It also marked a return on vocal duties for Kai Hansen and it's been the same ever since! Since the release of Somewhere Out In Space in 1997, Gamma Ray have sported a rock solid line-up that includes the metal tour de force of Kai Hansen (vocals/guitars), Dirk Schlachter (bass), Henjo Richter (guitars), and Daniel Zimmerman (drums). In 2005, Gamma Ray released Majestic which saw them headlining the most prestigious metal festivals in Europe including Wacken Open Air (Germany), Bang Your Head (Germany), Tuska Open Air (Finland), Monsters of Rock (Belgium), Masters of Rock (Czech Republic), Gods of Metal (Italy), Sweden Rock (Sweden), and Summer Breeze (Germany). The band also headlined their first North American tour. Now the Majestic metal masters finally bring their full metal assault and explosive live show direct to Australia. Joining Gamma Ray in Sydney is Australia's most emphatic live metal act LORD whilst Melbourne delivers Vanishing Point who supported Gamma Ray on their European tour in 2001.
