Can anyone suggest an extreme metal band, that has really really mind boggling technical riffs that are really fast, that has normal metal drumming and don't have just blast beats, and sing about things other than satan and eating human flesh?
I'm looking to further my rythym playing into the more fast technical side, and need some practice material/inspiration and all that.

Pentagram - Don't know if most people have heard of this band but they seem to be fairly obscure. Very Sabbath sounding but they actually started in the early 70's but didn't release their first album until the mid 80's. Very influential and awesome band.

Negură Bunget
Hailing from Romania, Negură Bunget specialise in technical yet heathenistic/ethnic Black Metal. An oustanding band: amazing & creative drumming, use of ancient instruments , beautiful electronic soundscapes, mind bloggling riffs and timechanges reflect the arid mountains and blinding snows of their home country without a nationalist attitude. Open-minded and ever evolving, Negură Bunget provide something truly unique in a Black Metal landscape where many bands simply copy one another. Video clip here (approx 45Mb): http://www.negurabunget.com/clip__fi...et__vazduh.mpg Highly recommended! http://www.negurabunget.com/ ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Hubster : June 27th, 2006 at 11:14 PM. |

I came across this band from the singer from Visceral Bleeding. He used to be the singer prior to joing VB.
Now the cats are only young average age of 16 or 17. Check them out here http://www.myspace.com/theshatteringsweden Give them a couple of year and they will be doing big things in the BDM scene. |

arsis are not melodic death, if they are, then they are beefed to the extreme.

Myself and Pyro are both Arsis freaks and we both agree that they are melodic death. They are slighty heavier than older Arch Enemy to give you an example. They are far from extreme.

what are you fools on about. slightly heavier than old arch enemy? that is ridiculous. the arsis dudes riffs shit all over anything the ammot's have ever come up with. they are much faster, more technical and intense than anything included under the melodic death tag. they are far too extreme to be thought of in the same light as old arch enemy!
I DECLARE SHENANEGANS!

For a definition of extreme please see the following link
http://www.myspace.com/wormed Period. Don't make me bring out the Lolpeth jokes. Also take back what you said about Amott or I will kill you... Last edited by Awake_In_Animosity : June 28th, 2006 at 08:56 PM. |

im not dissing amott, im a big fan, burning bridges is one of my favourite MELODIC DEATH albums. however, we are talking about extremity and complex riffs, and arch enemy do not qualify. now. this isnt a contest about who can go ballistic in the smallest amount of time i.e. agoraphobic nosebleed or who can go bezerkerish like wormed or the bezerker or whoever. however, arsis are without doubt too extreme to be called melodic death. im not saying they are the most extreme band in the world because of course they arent. but they are deffinately beyond anything that can be called melodic death or considered along the lines of arch enemy, dark tranquility and so forth.
