One that's been mentioned a couple of times, Job For A Cowboy is perhaps the gayest band name I've heard in my entire life. I've read they're pretty good, but I can't bring myself to listen to them.

Hmmm. I think what I'm getting at is that some bands choose names that seem inappropriate, and are therefore "bad", whereas names like Cannibal Corpse are dumb, but "good" because you pretty much know what a band called Cannibal Corpse is going to sound like. *shrugs*

Sorry to revive old threads but I just got a demo from an underground Japanese band who are called "Bathtub Shitter". I'm sure it lost some of it's menace in the translation.

I LOL'd Bathtub shitter. Maybe its one of those things that sets you apart as the lowest of the low in a culture that (at least used to) feature communal bathing.

Sorry to resurrect a dubious post. But I was bored. If you really want to vomit, here is an example of Goblin Cock - at the bottom of the list (One of the bands to feature earlier in this thread). Truly awful! Its like a stoner version of Black Sabbath. The only thing metal about it is the guitars. 10 points for the "Vulvarine" comic though...

Then there are "Satan's Penguins - new wave of turkish black metal". They have a myspace page... check it out! They don't sound too bad... (disclaimer: I am not a black metal fan so I wouldn't know good black metal if it bit me on the arse- at least the production sounds ok!)

Still on the Satan theme there is: Satan's Almighty Penis, which you can find examples of on youtube

So, progressing to Numetal I've heard a band called "Thousand Foot Krutch" Who have a song called Move on youtube. This band appears to be the numetal version of NKOTB so be warned...

Finally- I had to post the link because I've no idea what the bands name is, but to me, nothing says black metal like fenders. And the energy of this performance is beyond words.

If I recall they're named after a god of good harvest. Not sure how accurate the naming is though.

Speaking of intestines, I forgot about Squash Bowels. I'm not sure whether it's incorrectly translated English from the Polish for crushing the intestine, or something about the innards of a gourd.

The most recent band I have discovered goes by the name of Austrian Death Machine. A homage to the awesome Arnald Schwarzenegger. The entire album is in someway referenced to Arnie quotes from all his movies. I heard "Get To The Chopper" on Full Metal Racket last night, and I have to say, It's pretty fucking good. Very solid riffing. Another song title on this album is, "If It Bleeds, We Can Kill It". Also Haugi played the intro to the album and it was hilarious. Just a guy that sounds like Arnie crapping on about crap and then saying "this next song is 'GET TO THE CHOPPER!!!'". Very funny stuff. I recommend you guys check it out. Apparently it's a side project from one of the guys from As I Lay Dying.

Other stupid band names are:

Bathtub Shitter (Funny stuff)
Blink 182 (Doesn't make any sense whatsoever)
Hell Yeah (Although Vinny Paul is a legend, a stupid band name)
Jag Panzer (Gay)
Smashing Pumpkins (Gay)
Subway To Sally (She'd better give me a blowie after the train ride)

You could go on forever with stupid band names.

I mean, seriously a latin name? Who do they think they're kidding?

I agree with the earlier sentiment someone posted that most names lose their meaning once they are established bands and people just know them by the music/image instead. Kiss, soilwork, linkin park etc. all just names associated with the band, not the other way around.

Grind band names which are deliberately stupid are a different category where they are either clever or stupid depending on your view of things.

I must admit I laughed at the visual imagery of 'Rake Sodomy' when I first saw that.
