Auckland or Wellington?

If you were to take a week holiday in NZ in February and you had the first night (Monday) in the one city and two nights (the following Sunday and Monday) in the other city, which city would you spend the last weekend in and why?

Would you drive from Auckland to Wellington or vice versa?

Haven't been to NZ in years but the drive between the two cities was fantastic back then.
so much to see. Especially Rootarooa (spelling) with all the hot springs and such.
better to start in wellington even though the flight in is terrifying and drive up to Auckland and stay there a couple of days.

Actually the way the weather is in Wellington, you could end up in Auckland first even if you plan to land in Wellington.

Someone else has told me to spend 2 days in Wellington, it's much nicer.

I enjoyed Auckland more than Wellington myself, but that was more from a touring band perspective.
