Just purely talking from what we paid, not the work that was done, under $6000 for the hired studio time.
That doesn't count the very many hours I spent in my own studio doing the guitars and bass and keyboards and editing and mixing. If I put that onto the bill with the same rate we were paying at 301, just purely for studio time we would have been well over $25,000. Add in my regular fee and we're looking at about $35,000 all up. So yeah, doing shit yourself in your own studio can be pretty good for getting a product over the line when labels don't even know where the party is let alone come to it. ![]() |

Oh ok, so the 6 days that you did drums and vocals. I guess 301 is pretty much the Sing Sing of Sydney (similar rates and reputation).
It really put's things into perspective in terms of what sort of money is being put into music recording, and how little is being put in compared to international acts. Not bashnig the scene or anything, just an observation. Eg, new Chaimera: they spent a whole 6 hours on setting up the CYMBALS for the recording. I can't even imagine what sort of budget thay have been given for that.

301 is pretty much one of the best recording rooms in the country (one of the best in the world) and we got a KILLER deal from them.
For a full production in 301, especially if you're paying a "name" producer, you're looking at $50,000 - $100,000 minimum, which is pretty scary! |

Tim, has there been much discussion about what other material will be put on the upcoming Dungeon DVD?
Any chance of having the M4TB material on the DVD? ![]()

Well, I'm hoping to actually get the footage I've been promising to put on there. I know it exists but actually getting it from the people who have it is proving to be quite the task. If indeed I do get what I'm after, there'll be footage from everywhere including some Dungeon MFTB stuff.
Daryl - hey, dude! Good to see you! The bio is actually correct. When we first jammed it was in about 1987 for a pop thing I was putting together, but you didn't actually try out for Dungeon until after Ian Debono left in late 1990. ![]()

This will probably sound like a really fucking dumb question but I thought I would ask anyway. Is the booklet/cover in the Japanese version of Demolition in english or japenese? I've never bought an overseas edition so I thought it would be best to ask.

Hey Tim
I dont know if your listening, but Dungeon got voted number 2 in Australia's top 5 releases of 2006 on Triple J's Full Metal Racket. Andrew said is was a draw with some other band I didn't catch the name of, but he's playing Betterman. Just thought you'd like to know. Edit: The other band was Anarion. ![]()

I thought that stank of negligence for him to claim that "Dungeon have released several albums since they broke up, which is weird". Dungeon were the biggest fucking metal band in the country by quite a margin, and if he doesn't know the deal with whats gone on with them in the last year or so, then he's guilty of incompetance.

Yeah, I explained it in GREAT detail in fact, and pretty much everyone who knows anything about Aussie metal knows the story now. He even got it wrong the week before my interview so I made a point to correct him and explain the story when I called...

Hey Tim
Im hoping you can help me out here with a bit of a physical question? The past year I've been playing in a slavic folk band, which is not at all hard to play along to, but it entails playing long nights at weddings and socials, where we'd play half hour (plus) sets over the period of 4-6 hours. Lately, we've been playing longer sets, and for new years eve I'm expecting that we'll play a good 6-7 hours. In those last few gigs, I've been getting left (fretting) hand cramps and pains in my wrist. It's really starting to worry me, because I've heard of some players putting permanent strain on their wrists as a result of overplaying when they were younger (i'm only 20 atm). Is there anything you would recommend, like stretching excercises? I've thought about raising my guitar, but after having a look at the way I have it, I don't know that it would help: I have it sitting with the base of the fretboard/ pups at around belly button level, but the anlge such that the headstock is at around my chest. I try not to play as low as many people, my guitar sits similarly to Chirs Broderic's (Nevermore, Jag Panzer). Cheers for any help you can give man Daniel

I'm probably not the guy to ask because I have fucked wrists now from over playing when I was a teenager!
![]() But yeah, having your guitar up a bit is a good start as is taking a break pretty regularly. If you're getting cramps, maybe have a look at changing your grip on your neck or fretting technique - that could be putting extra strain on there that you otherwise shouldn't be feeling. Without seeing what you're doing, it's hard to offer advice.... |

That's fair enough. I think the griping is what is actually causing the strain, since (as polka's go) the chords are played on the off beat and muted for the on.
If I can't figure anything out to fix/ stop it, i'll try get some photo's or vids up. Cheers.

As far as stretching goes, I guess you can stretch out your whole arm by just bending your fingers back lightly, shaking out the cramps between songs, and yeah... taking regular breaks.
Hope it doesn't become a problem. |
