2 things Timmeh... What kind of picks are you using there? And i noticed you don't use a whole lot of pinky in ur scale work (well in comparison to some), just in-born? easier?

I use Jim Dunlop .88's (which I bend to fit my thumb better - they look really thin because of that, like I'm bending them out of shape when I play but they're all actually pre-bent before I start), and the pinky thing.... it's amazing how many people have commented on that since I did that video! HAHA!
I feel more natural using my 3rd finger rather than my pinky, although my pinky is pretty strong too. Generally, if I can reach a fret with my 3rd finger, I'll do that first (with some exceptions, depends on the riff) but if I need to then I'll use my pinky for a wider stretch. Dunno why that is, I guess it's a habit I picked up when I was first learning how to play. It hasn't gotten in the way or anything, it's just one of "those things" that I do. ![]() |

Can anyone recommend any decent metal-ish vocal DVDs they've seen?

Sorry, I had no idea where this should be posted, but I thought there would be a fair few of us interested in it... from Slashdot today...
"Recently YouTube seems to have started applying extreme compression to the audio of uploaded clips. This is the type of compressions used by radio stations to make everything louder, but in this case applied extremely badly. In quiet passages, breathing and shuffling become overpoweringly loud. A gently plucked guitar chord becomes a distorted thud. Listen to an example here. And here's what it could sound like — still not perfect, but a whole lot better. The fixed version is thanks to a workaround proposed by Sopranoguitar — the idea is to turn down the audio and mix in a high frequency sine wave (I used 19kHz). The sine wave fools YouTube's compressor into thinking that the file is at a uniform level (and does not need the volume changing at all) but is filtered out by the encoding process (so, no need to worry about deafening any dogs)."
