Thank you so much for that Todd. That gives me a much better idea on what you mean. I'll have to practice giving that a go. When you say you practiced it pretty full-on for about a month, how often a day would you say you worked on just double stroke? Thanks again.
Oh, and how much does it cost to get those practice pads for the kick pedals? And do you know if there are ones available for a double kick pedal? |

Those are wide enough for double pedals
I can't remember how much I paid for em, I've had them for years hahaProbably about an hour a day, just doing a steady tempo of 8th notes and randomly dropping in double strokes. I'm going to write up some theory because I'm fucking bored and have no Uni homework yet...
*snipped* Moderator notes: As mentioned in the very first post of the thread: "This thread isn't about proving how big your musical dick is, so don't spout 3 pages of modal theory unless it's relevant to the question you're being asked"

Can't say I've ever had the need or the desire to play double strokes.
Actually to be perfectly honest, it was the first time I saw Infernal Method play that I KNEW it was possible to play bullshit fast with single strokes. So that's basically what I've practiced for years and years. I've made a whole CD (40 mins worth) of a click track that starts off medium kinda paces, and jumps by 5bpm intervals every 5 minutes... I just sit at my practice kit and go as far as I can. Which ever speed I get sloppy at, I go back, and do the one before it again a few times, and keep progressing. Seems to work for me. Then once I'm feeling pretty good I'll practice along to something like Fear Factory's Demanufacture and see what I can do. Quite demoralizing. ![]() |

I wasn't. I'm fucking bored and seeing as this is a musical thread I thought people might like to know basic modes. I could have gotten way more into it, and pwnt everyone, but I started out basic. Who knows, everyone might learn something.
MODERATOR NOTE: You knew the rules. You disobeyed the rules. Don't piss of the mods because they can "pwnt" you back. Next ban is permanent. Last warning.

I have heard most things with guitar so im going to ask a question abuot singing - I believe i have great pitch, a decent range, but i cant sing with any projection or presence. I can't describe very well, but i just think i sound too wussy, and i am trying to find a deeper, richer, tone. I know becuase one dayy i was singing quite loudly with a good tone a long time ago, and someone else in the house is like 'are you singing
' and i cut back to a level only i could hear... my own fault, but does anyone have any suggestions? |

Ok well I think visualisations play a big part in singing can help with getting more resonance and more power as well as conquering the god awful cracks in the voice.
Try to conceptualise that you are projecting to someone across a room. Before you start singing, close your teeth and mouth and start humming until enough resonance is there that you feel your teeth buzzing. Try doing this at a few different pitches untill you can feel the resonance alot in your mouth. When you wanna sing with power you have to push from the diaphragm and not the throat. To help with this kinda have your stomach pushed out and in hale so your ribs expand filling from the bottom of the stomach to the top of the lungs (I find breathing through the nose is better because it avoids dry throat.) Now what you want to do with your stomach out and ribs expanded is push down with your butt kinda like when you would goto the toilet and then try singing a note. This will tense the right stomach muscles allowing you to go louder than ever. When singing also try to imagine a big ball inside which is your resonance whe n you sing low the ball will be in your chest (chest voice) when you sing higher the ball will move up the body till you get high (head voice) when going up in your range think of this ball inside as it can make it much easier to sustain a full, richer and deeper tone anywhere in your range. |

Hmmm. I'm having alot of trouble with string skipping and arpeggios. Do you play them one note at a time, or play it like a chord? i guess i really should have made the decision when i was younger to get lessons, as i'm self taught.

That's a tough one. Provided you're hearing each not separately then it's all good, but you also want it to sound fairly fluid too (unless you're specifically going for a staccato kind of feel) so I tend to leave my previous finger on as long as I can before I change notes.
Are you talking about any shapes in particular or are you asking for shapes that people use? |
