Isn't that a bit impractical, road-testing a wide range of pickups?

Yep. But it's the best way to find out what REALLY works.
You can read descriptions until you're blue in the face, or try them out in a hundred different guitars, but you'll never really know what it's gonna sound like in YOUR guitar through YOUR rig unless you try it. ![]() |

I've found that the tone samples on the Seymour Duncan website really help in realising the contrast between the different characteristics of their pickups. It's a good starting point IMO.

I'm glad this thread has made it's way back up. The following pics are my gutar gear haul for this year, featuring my Peavey JSX haed, Framus Cobra 4*12 cab, and most recently aquired Schecter C1 30th Anniversary guitar, apparently only one of three to be allocated to Oz

Cheers for the drool hehe.
Tom: I've heard people's recordings of the Dragon and Cobra. They are indeed heavy. They have their own unique character, which can sound cool. If you can be bothered sorting through this, you'll find some good clips: http://www.rocksolidamps.com/sounds.php What's cool about the Dragon, is the cab, which is quite cheap, but sounds really hot.

It's all good, man. I spent ages looking for my "perfect" gear, and sites liek that really helped, so i'm glad to pass them on.
